We’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Ms. Sonya Hernandez, our new School to Careers Coordinator. Ms. Hernandez will be working hard to create internship, apprenticeship, and job shadow opportunities. She will be the go-to person when it comes to employability and the world of work. She is a wealth of resources and a strong advocate for all students! Let her know how happy we are to have her as a Navigator!

All WayPoint students will have their pictures taken this Thursday, September 24th. Order information is available in our main office. Shortly after “picture day”, students will be issued WayPoint ID’s.

Students: please hold on to your ID. They help get you into sporting events, dances, and other activities. The replacement cost for a lost ID is $5.

MAP Testing Begins

Measures of Academic Progress (MAP Testing) begins today for our 6th graders. MAP scores can tell teachers and parents about their student’s current academic level in reading, math, and language usage. The key at WayPoint is to demonstrate a year’s worth of growth between this testing cycle and the one that occurs in the Spring (the end of the school year).

Testing Dates:

Tuesday, September 22nd — 7th Grade to test

Wednesday, September 23rd — 8th Grade to test

Monday, September 28th & Tuesday, September 29th — 9th & 10th Grades to test

Wednesday, September 30th — make-up testing for absent students

Thank you for being patient while I tried to get this blog up and running again!

We have completed our drop/add period for the first semester. What that means is, our classes are finalized and every student is enrolled in the classes that are necessary for graduation. Any changes that are made at this point will be based on educational need and/or teacher request.

Register with Selective Service

The Selective Service is a government agency whose job is to provide untrained manpower for the Armed Forces if there’s a national emergency. The law says that all 18-year old men must register. MTA’s male students who are 18 or soon to be turning 18 can register on line HERE. The entire process can be completed in less than 2 minutes. You also can register at your local post office or see Ms. Berryhill for more details. Don’t delay; failing to register, can result in prison time and/or fines. Additionally, you will not qualify for federal student grants or loans for college, job training benefits, as well as many state and federal jobs.
