“To Die for” Genocide in Darfur
You all in the Class of 09 (and many 010’s as well) have dedicated yourselves to many worthy causes over the past couple of years. You fought the good fight against Super Delegates by collecting over 2000 petition signatures calling for the end to the use of super delegates in the Democratic Party. You worked your tails off in the 08 presidential election – 711 volunteer hours. Many of you have gone to D.C. with Close Up – some two times. We will be in Selma soon and will walk the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Your individual battles in A.C.T! woke up Americans and there’s been a lot of “Letters to the Editor”. I have been very honored to work with you in many of these battles.
Our final fight for Awareness will be in May when the sun comes out. We are going to stage Muskegon’s Biggest “Die in” ever! Many of you are already aware of this, know what a die in is, and have begun to organize…but everybody is invited.
- The cause – is to fight genocide in Darfur.
- The place - across the street from Hackley Park.
- The time – in May when the sun comes out during Party in the Park
- The participants – anybody who wants fight genocide
Step one – is Awareness. We need to learn all we can about the situation at hand. We have been active in our studies of Africa, and in learning about the injustice of Sudan. Joe and Geoff have kept us up to date in Senior Current Issues to the events of Darfur. Julia, Jake, and Brianna put together an A.C.T! group in government class “Students Against Genocide.” We’ve seen Hotel Rwanda and The Devil Came on Horseback.
Now – the following Assignment – Darfur – wake up the world
Stay tuned for more information on our Die In at Hackley Park this Spring.

Bob,
Just checking out your blog. This is good stuff. I hope it goes well. In fact, this is another reason why you need to run for congress.
Two quick things though.
1. The presidential election was in 2008 and not 2009 like you wrote.
and
2. Is a “Party in the Park” the best place to do a die in? Will this scare little kids playing in the park with their families and friends? I see parks as a place to enjoy nature and escape from the troubles of the world.
Thank you James for the date change. And Party in the Park is a huge outdoor Friday night music and beer thing. So not families but people who need to be awaken! Actually its a perfect spot – because we’ll set up across the street at the Muskegon Board of Education grassy area. People in the park won’t be able to ignore what is going on. It will work. Wanna come and join us?
Thanks. I’d love to be there, but I don’t think I’ll have enough vacation time or money to do it.
I really want to do this. This will be one of the biggest most important things I’ve done in my life and I want to be involved in something important for once.
cool absolutely cool. Then you will do it.
