Stories from Selma
OUR PHOTOS FROM SELMA, ALABAMA – Please take a look!
Look here for Muskegon Chronicle coverage of our Selma trip.
March 6 to 9, 2009 fifteen Oakridge students and three teachers traveled to Selma, Alabama to participate in the “Bridge Crossing Jubilee.” We also visited Montgomery and Birmingham and Marion. We sang, we marched, we walked and talked with those who sacrificed back in 65, and with others like ourselves who came to show respect. We learned so much about the Movement and about ourselves as well. What follows are traveler podcasts, the views and voice from each of us, about one experience that most touched us down in the Southland. We hope that you will listen and learn from us.
Each podcast is three to six minutes in length. Firefox browser is not always compliant with these podcasts.

I love the quote on the ouside of the barber shop stating, “If you don’t vote, don’t talk politics in here.” Too many people complain about the way things are in this country, but yet never let their true voice be heard in poltics and that is on election day.
It looks like you all had a great time, but also an enlightening time. As I looked at your photos, you seemed tired. I’m guessing that Mr. Wood had your day full of activity. Take this experience and use it in your life to treat your fellow humans the way you want to be treated.
If we can, my mom and myself really want to go to Selma next time. You go every other year, right?
You can go! I go every year. Students everyother. It always feels good. And the weather is soooooooooo nice.
Depending on when I get my touncils out, I really want to plan on going…even if I’m recovering. When do you get the plane tickets because I get my refund probably sometime in February….so just let me know please because I REALLY want to go back.
What the hell are touncils? Are you some kind of alien? Hmmmm. I think you are…an alien sent by your sister to destroy the planet earth
