One: We finally got a book page!!!!
Two: Anyone who has not read Kite Runner or Thousand Splendid Suns absolutely must! They are such good books!
Three: Could everybody Suggest Some good books because I am running out of things to read.
Thanks!
Well, Myranda, I haven’t read any good books lately, but my dad and grandma have been reading a series. I think it’s called the “Left Behind’ series or something like that. They say they’re really good books, but I haven’t had a chance to read any yet. If all else fails though, you can always read James Patterson.
To Austin:
You’re right, “Go Ask Alice” is a good book. I didn’t think a lot of people would have really read that. It really does get to you, and shows you what can happen when you start those type of things. I’m glad that you liked that book. I’ll have to read “Catcher in the Rye”. Do you think you could tell what it’s about?
To Andrea:
The catcher in the rye is about a kid trying to come into his own, find his position in the world. The book starts with him getting kicked out of school and returning home, going through new york city. It’s def one of my favorites.
The best book of all time is either Soldier X, or Jake Reinvented. Soldier X is my all time favorite, it is about this Russian family that migrates to Germany ILLEGALLY!!! Then the Boy has to go to war and fight in the Jugend, better known as the “Hitler Youth” then he gets called to the front lines. Everyone on his line gets picked off and his only chance at life is to put on this dead Russians uniform. Good thing he was originally from Russia so he knew fluent Russian. He got stuck behind enemy lines. The book tells about the war from different perspective of the Nazis and the Russians, as well as the ways in which war can affect a person.
As for Jake Reinvented, this book is about how a little nerd from a school moves to a different school and throws parties every weekend because his dad is always out of town. So there is a lot of Alcohol, Drugs, Sex, and Violence in it. Which usually catches my interest.
Everyone:
I would also suggest Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles to anyone who likes paranormal books. Also, I would recommend Ellen Hopkins “Burned”, “Crank”, or “Impulse” books. Ellen Hopkins has an interesting way of writing. She writes her books in poem form, but they also tell a story all together. Her books follow troubled teens who fall back on drugs and sex to get away from it all.
Dani:
Do you know if the school library has the Heroin Diaries? I think I might try it.
Andrea:
What is “Save Me From Myself” about, because it sounds really familiar, I think I might have read it…
To Myranda:
“Save Me From Myself” is about Brian “Head” Welch (former lead guitarist of KoRn), how he “Quit KoRn, kicked drugs, found God, and lived to tell my story.” That’s just what it says on the cover of the book. It goes a little deeper into his past and how certain things (band related) got started. It’s really good.
I’ve requested “The Heroin Dairies” to the library. I’m going to be getting it (hopefully) this weekend, but, I thought it would be nice to have in the school.
I really recommend books by James Patterson and John Grisham. Patterson writes a lot of thriller books and Grisham writes about the law. They are really interesting authors. I really have enjoyed Laurie Halse Anderson who wrote “Speak”, “Catalyst”, and “Fever 1793″. I am in the middle of reading “Blue like jazz” and “Becoming fearless”. I am looking to read, “It’s kind of a funny story” and that is about depression with a humorous side. If I find more stories to share…I will soon.
I just finished it Mr. Wood!! Memoirs of a Geisha. I have to say that was one of the best books I ever read, it was great. I hardly wanted to put it down. I think I liked this book even better than The Kite Runner!! You guys should all read it. The movie really follows along with the book. Other than the more indepth stuff, there were only a few major events that were different in the book than in the movie. Alot of times the books are great and then they just kill the movie, but this is so not the case with this one. This is definitely a “must read” book!!
As of right now i am finishing a book called
On the head of a pin.
Its about these high school kids that party then do something that will change there lifes forever. Every chapter is told by 1 of 4 people and they tell what is happining and how they are dealing with it.
One of my favorite books was I Am America (and So Can You!) It’s written by Stephen Colbert, from the tv show the Colbert Report. It was one of the funniest books I’ve read: if you’ve ever seen his show, the book is just like that. I recommend reading, but only if you have the right kind of sense of humor and aren’t easily offended.
James Patterson is good!!! The library has quite a few of his books, and I know Mr. Goodrich has some too, and so do I. THEY ARE GOOD!! Also, Go Ask Alice is really good too, I have to agree with Austin. Margret Peterson Haddix and John Grisham are also really good authors. Patterson is the best though. Read the Womens Murder Club books, you wont be able to put them down. Trust me, I’m an addict.
I definately want to read the Heroin Diaries. Nikki Sixx is my hero!!! I’m glad everyone’s trying to get that in the library.
Anyway, I like all books by Stephen King and V.C. Andrews.
Right now I am reading Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet-Street (the book that came before the plays and movies), The Kite Runner, Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass, and The Earl Cain Saga…which is awesome! Thanks, Sam!
Also, for those of you who like books that are Heroin Diaries-esque (the personal lives of drugged-out rockstars), then I highly suggest Kurt Cobain’s Journals. It’s insane!
I’m currently reading “The Paths We Choose” by Sully Erna (Godsmack lead singer). It’s so awesome. It has really hilarious moments in it, and there are the parts that have you on the edge of your seat. Of course, Sully swears A LOT in the book. I’m almost done reading it, and I only started on Sunday. I really recommend this book.
It’s about a boy whose dad dies and he talks about his life through his eyes after he moves and it refers to Jimi Hendrix a lot because that was his father’s inspiration, so he tries to be like his father. However, there are shocking twists in the plot that you wouldn’t expect. The book is in poem formation, but it’s not really poetry. It’s really good! (It even references Bob Dylan and Jimmy Page. So it’s pretty much amazing!). It’s a very groovy hippie book. It’s pretty far out.
The next book I will read is Nick Sagan’s Idlewild. He is the son of the famous late astronomer, Carl Sagan. I’m sure it’s amazing, but I will let you all know when I’m done. Look into it if you want.
My favorite books (right now) are
-My Sweet Audrina, V.C. Andrews
-The DaVinci Code, Dan Brown
-The Lovely Bones, Alice Seabold
-The Talisman, Stephen King
-Jimi & Me (I can’t remember the guy’s name…crap!Help me, David!)
(Not in that order necessarily, and of course there are many more I enjoy, but that’s just a start! My Sweet Audrina really is my favorite book ever though. V.C. Andrews wrote the Flowers in the Attic series, which are also good).
-The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards, is a good book.
: His son, born first, is perfectly healthy, but the doctor immediately recognizes that his daughter has Down syndrome. For motives he tells himself are good, he makes a split-second decision that will haunt all their lives forever. He asks his nurse, Caroline, to take the baby away to an institution. Instead, she disappears into another city to raise the child as her own.
My FAVORITE book I have ever read was called: My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Picoult.
Its about a family who has a little girl that has leukemia, she needs a bone marrow and of course nobody is a match in the family so they genetically design an embryo specifically for giving her just that and any other type of treatment she needs. Then the she simply refuses and demands to be medically emancipated from her parents.
I have read alot of good books.
If you are looking for a quick read there is a book called kissing door knobs, it souds like a odd book okay it is a odd book but it is short and entertaining to read!
amazing that you actually have read a book, let alone a book about door knobs. Be nice if you came to class today.
I just finished reading the book “The Long Hard Road Out of Hell”. It’s kind of an autobiography of Marilyn Manson. It falls into the category of “the personal lives of drugged-out rockstars” as Rebecca put it, and it truly gives insight into his life and how he became the way he is today. It’s very dark and kind of twisted, but a very interesting read, and I couldn’t put it down.
Books are kind of boring to me, unless, it is a really good one that I can get in to. Mostly I read books about past wars since I enjoy the stories of battles. Lately, however, I have been reading the books Black, Red, and White. It is a really good series that will soon have a new book added to it called Green.
-Brave New World
-Fahrenheit 451
-1984
-The Irresistible Revolution
-anything by CS Lewis
-The Glass Castle
-School’s for conversion:12 Marks of a New Monasticism
-Soren Kierkegaard’s work
these are all good authors or reads to look into, atleast, I think so )
Jaime! How are you? Good books Jamie you little radical.
The Elemental Witches series. The ones that I know of are (in order):
Witch Fire
Witch Blood
and
Witch Heart
Witch Heart is coming out on January 6th of next year. The first books are sssooo good. You really get drawn in and you fall in love with the characters. Anya Bast is really an amazing author. If you want to check out more of her work go to: http://www.anyabast.com/
I believe in books with meaning. Books that will make the world a better place. Books that give inspiration and make you think about who you are. Books that are real and truthful.
The fourth book to the Elemental Witch series, Witch Fury, is coming out June 2nd of this year. I really do recommend this series, it truly does draw you in. Any of the Anya books does that ^.^
Read The Historian! It has everything a book needs. It has adventure, romance, traveling, historical mentionables…..and such and such. It’s long but easy to read. I recommend it to anyone who loves a good book
Also, read Blue like Jazz if your into faith and God. It paints a beautiful picture of what the faith of God is really like and how religion isn’t the way to go. It’s very funny and witty. You will enjoy this book very much. I give it five and a half stars….out of four. I hope my opinion matters….and even if doesn’t…..oh well.
I liked “Plain Truth” by Jodi Picoult. It leads you to the point where you think you know what happened. But in the end you had no idea. It’s really crazy good.
I think that the womens murder club series by James Patterson are the best books. There are seven in the series and starts with 1st to Die and ends with 7th heaven.
All of you should check out the author David Sedaris, just look it up on amazon or something.
He is one of my favorites.
I’ve noticed all of your recommendations and i agree that they are all very good books.
Catcher in the Rye is one of my all time favorites. I’m pretty proud of having a daughter named Phoebe!! Remember, Holden’s roller skate skinny sister named Phoebe?
I really honestly disagree. I didn’t like Catcher in the Rye. Maybe it is just that it was so uneventful for me. I dont know. I like a portrait of dorian grey much better.
I just wanted to reccoment No Place Like Home by Marry Higgens Clark to anyone [mainly girls] . It is a mystery, with some love in it, and has a very surprising ending. It is a murder story, if you are into those kind of suspenses. If you are just looking for an easy read with a lot of AR points, this is a good one too. I just think it was a really eventful, interesting, and surprising novel.
“grl2grl”, “Luna”, “Keeping You A Secret” all by Julie Anne Peters. These books deal with the Lesbian, Gay, and Transgender issues. I plan on reading the rest of Peters’ books.
“Got The Life” by Fieldy (bassist of nu-metal band KoRn). A very good autobiography. Fieldy talks about his dealing with popping pills, alcoholism, smoking weed and what his rise to fame did to further those problems. He also talks about the band and of course his family.
I really like “The Summer (of You and Me)” by Ann Brashares. She wrote the sister hood of traveling pants books…I never read those but this book was so good. It’s present day where sisters in their early twentys and every summer they go to Fire Island off of New York and one sister is a life guard who would live in the ocean if she could and the other waitresses and babysits to earn money for college. They grew up there on the island with a childhood friend named Paul, and this particular summer will have been 3 years with out seeing him, and now he comes back and it takes a toll on all of them. I love reading books about sisters, because of my own relationship with my sister…so it’s a good read and since its getting colder, it will make you think on the warm summer sun.
your relationship with your sister…lets not go there…OK?
I just read The Comeback Season. I do not know the author, but it was a great book about baseball and relationships. You would enjoy this book if you like sports books. I highly recommend this book.
My two favorite books that i have read are:
Go ask Alice and Catcher in the rye.
they are both AR
One: We finally got a book page!!!!
Two: Anyone who has not read Kite Runner or Thousand Splendid Suns absolutely must! They are such good books!

READ BLUE LIKE JAZZ!
books are for bums
books are not for bums. they are for people who have minds and use them.
Books I recommend:
the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer
Pillars of the Earth and World Without End by Ken Follett. They’re long books, but they’re 2 of the best books I’ve ever read.
Duma Key by Stephen King.
Dani,
did you take AP english? If so, what books would you recommend for those who take it?
Also, what is the Twilight series about?
I think i am with Thomas on this one books are for bums.
Right know I am reading my sisters keeper. I am not a big book fan at all!! But I love this book. I’m not that far into it but its great!!!

)
what was that american life with the guy who would interview people and slept outside his car or something…it was really strange… The Friendly man
That’s it…thanks Mr. Wood
I’ll see you later this morning!
I just read The Comeback Season. I do not know the author, but it was a great book about baseball and relationships. You would enjoy this book if you like sports books. I highly recommend this book.
Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray. I have not finished this book but so far its strange, poetically written, filled with wit beyond belief.
