mr. wood is it true that if barack Obama is elected he will not put his hand on the bible but instead use the Koran. when sworn into office. This is why my mother will not vote for him even though she agrees with alot of his ideas
Tell her not to worry she can vote for him. Check out this Christian based website – it should take care of some of your questions.
Can you imagine all of the rumors that this guy is going to have to fight through out this campaign. He’s black. His middle name is Hussein. His last name is Obama. His father was a Muslim. His father grew up in Kenya. I’ve heard soooooo many stories about Barack Obama. If he really gets there in the end it will be because he overcame the biggest rumor mill in world history.
thanks mr. wood i think this might of changed her mind
got my voter registration card in the mail a few days ago im so happy now i can finally do something in this country insted of just sitting around waiting while Bush runs our nation into the ground
BRAVO seniorita Ippen! I am confident that you will serve the public interest well! And force the public policy reflect public interest. And if that doesn’t happen I expect you to sharpen your pitchfork and soak your torch.
Mr. Wood you need to go to http://www.socialvibe.com
it’s amazing… and with that being said.
Did you know that Angelina Jolie is building a tuberculosis/AIDS clinic in Ethiopia. I think it is especially cool because that was my Africa country :]
Oh and by the way I took the traveler IQ test thing that I found on your blog somewhere… I did better ont he Africa part then on the North America part!
Hilary Dilary Doo – talk to me about the election! Thanks for the link – I hope that life is good for you. Stop up and see me and Mr. Barry.
Prepare to LAUGH.
Peace out,
Rebecca

Just one of the many videos I’ve seen recently that show the lies and hypocrisy of John McCain.
http://www.youtube.com/user/bravenewfilms
This is a youtube group that posts similiar political videos, not just about John McCain. So check it out if you have the time.
Mr. Wood, Check out this article that I found, its crazy. Its completely insane how many rumors there are about Barack Obama and how fast they spread. Its no wonder why the people who don’t do their reseach and don’t know the facts are so confused all the time.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/06/29/AR2008062901871_pf.html
Isn’t it pathetic just how dumb people are…and don’t think that race isn’t involved in this whole mess – its right there at the core
I think that it is ignorant to have advertisements such as this pro-Obama Ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-ae409tJEI
and this pro-McCain Ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jo8KJNdCxWI&feature=related , to influence the voters toward one candidate or another, and this may be the only thought of theirs going into a poll. It is not only the obligation of the voter to know who their choice really is and what they believe in, but it should also be a focus of either candidate’s campaign to use more than 30-60 seconds at a time, and a opposition-oriented bias to explain their defense against the other. You could literally walk into a poll, after seeing 100 of those ads, and vote for someone you don’t know a thing about, and i would hope that America would be more mature and informed than to use those ads to pick the leader of this nation. I know that in four years when my turn comes up, I am going to know the person I’m voting for like the back of my hand.
Jeff – this is what our country has turned into – 30 sec adds! For everything. You have an obligation as a citizen of this country to know that person like the back of your hand…and you can press your folks and your grandfolks to know it that well too!
Okay…might be inappropriate but is really funny. And this is free speech. I love ranting angry people. = )
It’s frustrating when so many people in your family have those racist views. At our last family gathering, a bunch of the men where all talking about the Obama rumors, and how they believed the rumors were true. And they also think Obama will be a bad president because he’s black. And it’s impossible to convince them that they’re wrong and their views are racist. It pisses me off so much that so many people can hold such archaic views in this day and age. And that people can so easily be bought over by lies and ads. We’re lazy and apathetic as a country; most people aren’t going to take their own time to really research the candidates. So in the end we’re going to end up with McCain as our president because no one really gives a damn about seeking out the facts. They’d rather rely on 30 second smear ads and second hand gossip to make their decision.

Palin/Clinton SNL skit
Hey Mr. Wood did you see Chris Rock on Larry King tonight it was so funny.
Mr Barry always says that Head of State is one of the funniest movies in the world. Chris Rock plays the president. Have you seen it?
http://www.myspace.com/kivaloans
I’ve added them as one of my friends on myspace ^.^
This is the Newest SNL skit with Tina Fey as Sarah Palin. http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/couric-palin-open/704042/
Mr. Woods
People make me so mad that they are not educated on this election and are only voting because of a middle name or something stupid like that. I almost want to bring them to my 2nd hour class so they know the facts and don’t blindly vote based on a 30 second ad.
No i havn’t seen that movie yet. I think I heard about it.
You know Mr. Wood people make me so mad. I am angry because people arn’t educated on this vote. People are voting because of stupid things like middle names and 30 second ads. I just want to smack them and tell them to wake up!!!!
Don’t get frustrated…educate people. Work at the campaign…work to enlighten people…talk to your family members…watch the debates. The more you become educated, the more you can help others. Sometimes people are stupid in their answers to issues in this election – because they don’t know what else to say – and it’s easier to say something stupid and laugh. Stick to the facts. Educate yourself and awaken others. You won’t feel so frustrated.
Kassi,
That was so funny. It made me crack up. I cannot believe how much Tina Fey looks like Sarah Palin.
You should also watch the daily show with John Stewart, it was so funny also. We watched that today in Senior current issues and the whole class was laughing the whole time.
HAHA!! I seen the skit on SNL.. with Tina Fey as Sarah Palin. I thought it was so funny. You should watch it Mr. Wood I really think it would amuse you =]
Mr. Wood
I think it’s sad when people blame God.
Hey, what ever happened to Crazy Bob?
He’s over at Alternative…where you are going to be headed too, if you don’t start posting some blogs on time.
Mr. Wood! I promise to do good. Do you want a mission statement? Cause I’ll give you one!

This is from the future husband of Kimmi Carlson, it’s from a blog of hers entitled How Christians Should Vote. Anthony is a very wise young man who follows God with all of his heart. I read this and felt so strongly that I needed to share this with everyone.
How Christians Should Vote (by Anthony Timlin)
I would imagine that, at the time, every single election seems like the most important one to date, but the upcoming election seems to be more momentous than usual. Phrases like “uncharted territory” have been popping up which really raises the stakes and makes this upcoming election seem like it just may carry a little more weight than others. Not to mention the fact that we are embroiled in a war we can’t escape with a couple more potentially on the way . For most Christians this election is more than just an economic or leadership issue, it’s a moral issue. The big question is how they should vote.
I only have one election under my belt, so this is only my second experience with media during campaign season. It truly is a sight to behold. It really drives the point home that politics have far removed the election process from what it should be. Essentially, the public should be presented with a group of candidates who should explain how they would govern the nation. The public then should choose which candidate they think would be best for the job. Instead, vast sums of money are spent trying to win the election, trying to convince everyone that one guy is wrong and the other guy is right. In fact, the amount of money spent campaigning for this election has surpassed an unprecedented one billion dollars . Think of how many college educations that could pay for. There is definitely something backwards about what we think is most beneficial for our country.
Maybe we could reach a point where we could function as a society without government, or at least without so much government. Maybe that money could pay for food, homes or education. Because really, no matter whom we elect to govern us, they aren’t going to be able to make us beneficial members of society, only we can decide.
Unfortunately, during election time churches react in a similar way to the media. There is always this push to elect the right candidate, the Godliest candidate. Typically, if not always, this is the Republican candidate. If they would have had the foresight to pick the donkey as their mascot they could parade Jesus around all day. This focus removes the purpose of the church from what it should be. Rather than being a place for broken people or people in need it becomes a campaign center.
Whatever your beliefs are, you cannot ignore the Christian vote. It will affect you.
A little more than three quarters of the United States population identifies themselves as being associated with some form of Christianity . From a candidate’s perspective that is a big chunk of votes ripe for the taking. Whether or not a person identifies with their faith above their citizenship, playing the God card probably doesn’t hurt a candidate’s chances of getting elected (in fact not playing the God card would probably destroy a candidate’s chances for election).
Whether you are a Christian or not, this should trouble you. Most of the people in America are going to vote based on who they think the Godlier candidate is, and those running for office understand this. They will identify themselves in some way with Christianity, which is really just pandering to voters because in no way do either of our two major presidential candidates represent Christ.
In fact, I can’t imagine Jesus having anything to do with a political system. I wonder what Jesus would have to say about democracy being equated with sacrificial love.
I have only been pursuing Christianity seriously for a few years, when I started I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into. Since then I have been trying to figure out what it is exactly.
At first it was presented to me as a moral shock collar that we needed to put around everyone’s necks. It was for the good of mankind that we let everyone know how wrong they were, and how right we were. We had to vote to keep God in office and sign petitions to keep homosexuals from ruining the sanctity of marriage (It breaks my heart now to think that petition was in a church, let alone the fact that I signed it).
I’m a little more educated on this guy Jesus that we are supposed to be following now. Because of what I have learned I no longer believe that Christianity and Democracy can coexist. If you participate in one, you abhor the other, whether you are aware of it or not. Unfortunately, I think that most Christians think their main duty as so is to make sure that the right candidates are in office. If you can get someone representing your morals elected then you have done your job and you can sleep soundly at night in your heated home with a two car garage and fully stocked refrigerator.
However Jesus did not operate in this manner, and as far as we can see in the biblical narrative, neither does God. Jesus led by example and taught to love through sacrifice, not by force. God offers free will, there is no force.
Democracy forces the will of the majority on all. This is not sacrificial love. This is not leading by example. This is legislative rape.
No wonder Christianity is losing any relevancy in the modern world. It was started as an alternative to empire, to free the oppressed, yet it now has its boot on the neck of the weak waving an American flag.
Now, I am not saying that if one is a Christian one cannot participate in electing officials. I understand in order to perpetuate this community we live in called America we need people to run it, and by all means vote for whoever you think would do a better job, but if you are a Christian who you vote for is of little or no consequence as it pertains to your Christianity. You can only put your faith in one system or the other. Whichever one you choose forces the other to become a novelty.
In order to make society a better place, to bring heaven to earth, we have to vote every single day with our actions.
Vote pro-life by caring for teenage mothers, single mothers or any mothers who are contemplating abortion. Only if we respond to the situation that creates the seemingly necessary abortion will we ever have a chance of saving lives.
If you want to save the sanctity of marriage take yours seriously. Divorce is more common among Christians than non-Christians .
Vote for a better economy by giving your money to the poor.
Vote for a better world by taking care of everyone you see in the same way that you take care of yourself.
Vote with love.
Vote with your life.
I posted the thing about Kimmi and Anthony….not Rusty. :0)
Hey Mr. Wood,
I know how much you miss me in your class and everything but I am having an issue with voters. My problem is that democratic voters through the news and the paper and even on the street the people that I have talked to have said repeatedly that they simply refuse to vote for Barack Obama because he is “black.” It is really making me angry for the simple fact that he is not black. My question is What do you think I should tell these people because obviously just telling them some of the facts is not enough.
Drew, the fact that you are angry, that this issue bothers you so and that it makes you think what do I do? – means that the world is changing. Your generation has inherited a lot of baggage from mine. I look around at the kids at our school – they are more accepting of people than I was at your age, than my mom and dad were at their ages. That’s progress. You are not going to change a persons’ warped views with any magic potion. What you will do is eventually dilute that hatred with knowledge and compassion. Your generation, I trust will look deeper at the issues, make decision based on the reality of the world not on racist ignorance. Consequently the world will become a better place for you and for your children. You cannot however allow anybody who talks like that off the hook. You have to challenge that mindset. You have to call it for what it is – ignorant and ugly and stupid You need to find the courage to confront these people with the truth. And here’s the hard part – when you do that, you need to be the better person – do so direct and restrained and leave no doubt their mind how you read the situation and their thinking. That’s not easy to do when you are angry. But you can do it, because you know you are in the right. Everybody in this nation has the right to vote their mind, even if their mind is filled with racist bigotry. But this is your country now…you will be coming of age under this new president, a new age. You have just as much of a right, maybe a duty, to not let thoughts and actions like this go unadressed. So take them on with confidence and class. anchored in the knowledge that you are coming from a just position. Thanks for thinking about such issues, and for asking for my advice. I cannot wait until young people like yourself, all have reached the age of 18, are registered, and have become a majority in the electorate that shapes this nation.
Hey, I was at a pumpkin patch with my family and I saw people just dropping money like no other. I thought that it was kind of weird seeings that everyone complains about not having money. They complain, yet they throw money away without even giving it a second thought. Don’t you think that’s ridiculous!?!
To Jake:
I think that’s ridiculous. People are hypocrites like that. They say they don’t have the money or that something is too expensive, but yet they turn around and buy that item. There are most likely a 100 explanations that they would come up with to make others say “Ok, that’s a good reason”. I know a lot of people that do stuff like that.

Well, I finally made some use of my article writing skills. Two of my own articles have been featured at TCGplayer.com, a website devoted to many different kinds of trading card games. My two articles (the only two I have written at the moment) are on the front page of the Yu-Gi-Oh section of the site. If I can keep it up, I have been offered payment.
My articles are both part of the same series:
Plants: Past, Present, Future. Under the pen name Killer2401.
If you’re interested, I would suggest checking it out.
Also, if anyone wants to play, come talk to me!
Congrats Kelly! Can you give us a link to your articles and I will post it!
Here’s a link to the main page, my articles are a little old (over a week) so they’re falling down the list, but I’m nearly done with my third one.

Nice job Kelly. Your first published article is always the best. And you’re right…I have NO idea what you’re talking about. But its cool.

My heart longs to reach out to the world.

Who hasn’t called back? Stop by manyana. And spell February correctly please
I want to change the world with Charity!!!!!
Mr Wood:
I agree with you in our “prayer debate.” Now that I think about it I think it is very selfish for a coach to lead a prayer before a game. Some people pray for the wrong reasons, and are very very selfish about it. They pray for themselves and so they don’t get hurt and they win and they they they, nobody is ever thinking about other people who are being murdered and raped all over the world. But I also Agee with Amanda because I know there a slim few who actually pray for the right reasons.
I appreciated our little prayer debate as well – thanks for posting. I don’t think Amanda’s thoughts and my thoughts are mutually exclusive. The key here is amendment #1 to the Constitution. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise there of; A teacher, a coach – we represent the government. Oakridge High School is the government. We are paid by the government, through public tax dollars – “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion” refers to us. And since you are a captive audience…we don’t have the right to impose our religious beliefs upon you – a student or an athlete (constitutionally or morally) . Nor do we have the right to inhibit your religious freedoms. Religion is the ultimate personal decision. The government has no business being involved in that call. In regards to the basketball court or soccer field or football field and god – there is in this nation, as Thomas Jefferson stated, “A wall of separation” that we have an obligation to honor. Jefferson also noted, that free speech plus free religion equaled free thought…and the government has NO business regulating, dictating, or intruding into your free thought. I would add that it particularly does not have that right with high school students who have yet to crystalize their own religious beliefs. Just my opinion…but it has the backing of the Supreme Court of the United States.
So, Mr. Wood, we are allowed to vent our rage at the world on here?
That’s what Free Speech is All About!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090201/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_israel_palestinians This is interesting, I want to know if this is the full story.
The full story? What exactly is the full story in Palestine…people have doctorates in the full story in Palestine and can’t agree what exactly is Palestine. Gaza and the recent war there, is a single chapter in a series of volumes. Time to start reading.
Well, since I can vent, this new bag rule ticks me off. I mean could we just throw our bags into a corner. I am forgetful and would it not just be easier to do that instead of totally over-reacting and completely banning them. Oh Mr. Wood could you please bring this up with him because in the day I have no time, or at least remind me to do it, or I will chicken out.
Ok since this is the free speech part of the blog and I can say what I want and get everything out of my system then I will do that here. OK first off I have been taking care of my sister because she had surgery on her knee and like I feel like Cinderella. I have been doing everything for her and I even have to tuck her into bed so that she is conferrable. I can’t do it any more she is driving me crazy!!! :/@ And today at practice I had a really bad day I could not stay on the beam and I had to do so many pushups because every time we fell we had to do 10 pushups and I swear that I hade to have done at least 100 within the 1/2 hour that we were on beam. After that I had to work and little kids let me tell ya they are not fun when your not having a good day!! ok I think that I covered most of what I wanted to say so good night and hopefully tomorrow will be a lot better. Oh ya how could I forgot my mom, well she just had surgery on Friday so I have had to take care of her too and run to the store a million times and get what her and my sister needs!!! wow ok now I think that I am finished. ok bye. Mr. Wood thanks for making a free speech thing on the blog I feel a lot better now.
Courtney that’s what free speech is all about! Good luck with the push ups.
Ah, I might have a way of bringing this up with the Board, my uncle was once on the Board and if I can get some more help I think I can at least get my point across.
Do you have any suggestions for people who could help me?
Hey Mr Wood I was just wondering about when i was talking about the electrical grid how it uses 60 hrtz and the rest of the world uses only 50 hrtz its just amazing how much power we use. That over 40% of our power is lost over the country. I do hope that Barack Obama will build a new electrical grid so it doesn’t waste so much power and reduce our hrtz to 50 so its saving 43% of our power and thats huge.
That is really cool. Can you find more info on this for us…so we can talk about it in class.
I am thinking about writing my life story. I’ll probably start it this summer. I am estimating that it will be approximately 1307 pages long. And that will be the complete version. The rough draft will be about 892. I will go back to my days of painting on my fathers lap with him at our old house, and to the memory where I would get lost in stores, and when teachers bashed me and called me things like “lard, or blubber”. I really think these things can shape my future and inspire future generations.
I wonder how many times Jesus will be mentioned.

Bill Gates, while speaking, lets loose some mosquitoes. The full story is on the video. I found it funny and informative.
You know this started as a joke question but then I thought about it and what do you think.
“If the whole world is in debt, where did all of the money go?”
I just want to tell everyone that I am WAY OVERSTRESSED!!!! Between work, taekwondo, Drama, volunteering for National honor society and Youth Volunteer corps, now tutoring, scholarships, and preparing for graduation I don’t have a social life anymore.
If it makes you feel any better Tyler, I never had a social life to start with ha ha ha….
We need to stop treating kids as a problem and law-breakers.
Why do some teachers have to hold the little power they have over students heads and act bigger than they acctually are. And why do they get angry when you express an opinion that goes against theirs or of their favorite student(s). That gets really annoying.
actually we didn’t have a blog date mr. wood. It just so happened that we both said “butt” and were relatively close in time..but it certainly made me laugh!
http://www.youtube.com/user/TheAmazingAtheist has a strong opinion and is funny.
http://www.politicalcompass.org/ can almost tell you where you stand in politics, I’m, personally, a Left Libertarian.
I re-took the test and I am almost totally Left Libertarian.
Mr. Wood, you should take the test and watch some of TheAmazingAtheist’s videos. Others should to.
Should I stop posting so much or so many times in a row. Just wondering.
Keep on posting all you WANT TO! And I’ll take the test. Lets see how much of a lefty I am.
So, Mr. Wood, what did you get on the test?
I’m going to go take it right NOW!
OK Jacob – this is where I am….Where are you on the chart?
http://www.politicalcompass.org/printablegraph?ec=-7.75&soc=-5.44
Mr. Wood, have you ever heard of Love 146?
I’ve heard of Love Potion #9. Is it an early version of #146?

http://politicalcompass.org/printablegraph?ec=-8.88&soc=-7.64 This is what I got when I took my time.
Really Mr. Wood?
This is the homepage…..and it has NOTHING to do with any potion…..even though it was sort of a decent movie…..not important…..check it out please

Mr. Wood you should watch some of TheAmazingAtheists videos entitled “LONG SUNDAY” they are good but can be longer than a hour.
Mr. Wood I think I found my cause, the corrupt Justice System and the insane amount of jail time and laws that drag us down. My goal is to form a group and raise our pitchforks and torches and storm the castle. Our voices will be heard.
Oh, and watch TheAmazingAtheists videos owning people, they state facts that they pull out of the air and he corrects them, and they are funny. He gets the facts across with a sense of humor.
Mr. Wood, will you join me in my cause to change the American Legal System, for the better that is. i plan on doing research and finding proof of my claims and then informing the masses, and then hopefully get enough people to pick up their torches and pitchforks and help me burn down the castle bring it to someone who is in power and will be willing to listen to our points.
I am always for pitchforks and torches IF YOU ARE INFORMED! So #1 get informed.
This is the political quiz you should use. It’s much quicker than the other one you have posted (which I think has some misleading questions) and more straight forward. It also seems to be very accurate.
http://www.theadvocates.org/quizp/index.html
I’m still a lefty. http://www.theadvocates.org/quizp/quiz.php
i have a question if the 70 trillion dollar pool of money doesn’t want to get mixed up with morgages but have its benefits. Why isn’t it hurting when the morgages go bad, because doesn’t it has envestors that invest into thoughs morgages so doesn’t that come out of that pool of money (70 trillion dollars) which in turn ruins the pool?
Yeah, I think that world’s smallest political quiz is a good one. For just ten quick questions it does a great job.
I scored the same on the test. Still a Lefty.
Congrats its a good place to be.
YO Mr. wood we won regionals and are going to state on friday.. basically we are awesome!!! HAHA time to take over the world just kidding but seriously if you want to we could try.
P.S. this means I will be missing your class on friday
P.P.S. Cody Hunter James Summerix ans myself are all going to the individual state tournament
Check out this story. Maybe there should be a die in organized for them as well? This is horrible.

Mr. Wood we should have a day in class where we debate topics that people in the school, well they should have one, an opinion on. Something like prayer in school, the school menu, and other things like that. I do realize that those are two completely different topics. But since the school won’t form a official debate team I have all of this pent up, I don’t know, argument I guess is what you could call it. But if we ever have a day in which we have nothing better to do, besides save the planet from the Government, we should do something like that. I personally like debating over religion, it is almost, I hate to say this, a fetish. It is like a drug to me. Debating in general is like a drug to me. It makes me feel good. But that is just me. So if we ever have a day in class that you have nothing planned, we should have a debate. And yes, I do enjoy debating touchy subjects and things that can make some people feel uncomfortable, such as religion and things of controversy, I find it fun.
Oh and as a side note, Mr. Wood, you should watch some of TheAmazingAtheists videos as I may be in one later on. One of his friends, him, and I think someone else are going on a road trip to visit the 48 continental states, and maybe Canada. They are looking for donations, people to buy their books, and places to crash, they called it “Couch Surfing”. And I offered my place to crash if they are to visit MI. They plan on making videos the whole way, writing a book, and having fun, there was also a thing about getting TAA laid, but that is off subject. So, if my mother will agree to let them, I may be featured in a video. This will probably not be until Summer, so there will be time enough to convince her to let them stay at my house. So stay tuned and watch their videos. I will set up a link to his friends sight when I get a chance, he looks like he is on something. That is all, I have spoken my mind and will probably post something longer when I get home, as I will have the whole day to build up thoughts.
I think that is the longest thing I have typed, not counting home work and three failed novels.
http://www.youtube.com/user/Saturninefilms
This is the other guy who will be going with TheAmazingAtheist on that road trip.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqkAcbPQ0xU&feature=channel_page
This is the video describing the trip, well the trip that will be coming up. I do hope that they will come to crash at my place.
So…Im just writing on free speech beacause Im board……………………..!!! I can’t wait for close up. I am a little scared. It will be the furthest away I have ever been, but If i cant do this I wont be able to do anything soooooo here I go wish me luck!
Mr. Wood, I have run into a conundrum in my mind, and moral problem that I have started a war in my mind over. Am I bigot for hating Bigots for being Bigots. Could you help me with this.
That has stressed me out as of late. It came to me and has been in or near the front of my mind ever since. But it is something for me and my philosophical side to think over. But could you give me some input, or someone, anyone. I have been told both, by many different people. Just asking.
P.S. Mr. Wood you should join a friend site like Myspace or Facebook, so you could spread your message across a large server of users.
Oh and also, 1 = 2, I looked it up on Wikipedia under “division by zero.” I had something else in mind, but my train of thought was derailed, so that is what I decided to put down instead.
I found this funny, TheAmazingAtheist uses the terminology of “sexy” for part of the Bill like you use them. Like how things should have been added but were not because they were not sexy enough. I don’t think I have ever lol’d so hard over the use of a word.
The testing has fried my brain, I still can’t think straight. It was not hard, but it takes forever and is about stuff that we learned over a few years. At least is is over and we get the weekend to rest, then back to the remidial daily life that we usually do.
Don’t worry your brain will unfry over the weekend. And you’ll be back to normal. Is that a good thing?

These videos show just how the people who claim that they are finance experts screwed over the common person and who they blame.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcz_NHAFGS0&feature=related
I found this one later and i think that it hits the nail on the head with what Americans think today.
P.S. we can be number one “Start acting like it”
“so we can quite coasting on the accomplishments of prior generations”.
Mr. Wood, I now have a Kiva Account, so now I can start to help out in the World.
Way to go Jacob. Way to go!
i have been writing songs for a band i one day hope to form, but i am not gonna post them right now because i don’t feel like being ridiculed by other people for my opinions for reasons my friends know but not many others do
and also i can’t post on the music section of the site so i will post what i wanted to post there, here:
this is a song condemning suicide to a great extent
http://disturbed1.com/video/disturbed-inside-fire
watch it and you will see what i mean
i find this quote from “The Kite Runner” to be true in today’s modern war-torn society
“War doesn’t negate decency. It demands it, even more than in times of peace.”
it is a quote that everyone should learn from and end war altogether
well i just made a kiva account and when i get money i will use it for good, not self-interest
way to go Dylan.
Okay Mr. Wood, you know of my constant mention of TheAmazingAthiest. In one of his videos he talks of a organization that is non-religion based and gets directly to the people who you wish to donate to. So I suggested Kiva, I sent him a Kiva video that was on YouTube and sent a link.
Way to go Jacob! The Amazing Atheist and KIVA
I was reading my daily scriptures today, usually try to read it every morning but today I didn’t read it till I got home. It was 1 Timothy 6:9 “Those who are determined to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and many senseless and hurtful desires, which plunge men into destruction and ruin.” And I thought this was so appropriate for what we discussed today in class. All through class all I thought of what the Bible says about money. I feel weird talking about the Bible after the Amazing Atheist. I just wanted to share that.
I am honored to have the Bible, Nick Dempsey, and the Amazing Atheist back to back to back on my blog.
So, what do you think of this virus that is being activated today, you know on April Fools Day. Do you think that this is a joke or will it turn out to be real and turn out computers into SPAM-SENDING ZOMBIES, or capture type, or will it do something to the computer itself? I did not even know of the virus until yesterday. And then I was informed it was April Fools Day about two hours later. I hope it is just a joke or something that will not do too much damage, like something jumping out at you. But if not, I can find other programs that can get rid of it. But if it does do a large amount of damage, and since I think it is world wide, will Japan light on fire after half of the country shuts down. I gave that some serious thought, since I want to go to Japan. The same could be said in the U.S. and the rest of the world, probably even China. Now I wonder if it does affect China, will they send some kind of assassin to kill the creator, or will Japan do that. That would be kind of entertaining to hear about. “Man killed after creating virus, China may be involved.” That would cause me to laugh until I cry. I am still waiting to see if TheAmazingAtheist will respond or inform someone of whether or not he has a KIVA account. I do hope he gets one.
I’m bettin that he’ll get one.
Turns out that the virus was a scam to trick people into buying software, well that is what I have heard anyway.
Mr. Wood, how good are Micheal Morre’s movies. I have some in line on Netflix, are most of his movies good. And also, I tried to call all of the Represenatives, but I got put on hold all of the time, I must have been on hold for a few hours overall. I could never get through, but I must continue trying.
Oh and we finally found a term to call all of these people who are obsessed with Twilight, we have been throwing this term around alought as of late, Twitards. The term is Twitard, we found it funny and it works.
Hey Jacob B the term is Twi Hard but together as one word you get Twihard… just thought you would want to know this otherwise you just look ignorant and I wouldn’t want that so get it right next time.
Hey everyone SICKO is a very interesting movie. Just watching it one day really opened my eyes of the Health Care issue in this country. It is really stupid that the government is making sustainable life in the US to be so hard to achieve. I believe that Michael Morre should show this documentary to the President and show him that this is awful and something needs to be done about Health Care in this nation. And I mean not sometime in the future I mean NOW! It makes me really sick!
Mr. Wood is there any way of making a petition to send to congress or some high branch of the government to show what the people think about the health care situation? I believe should have a petition and I will gladly help out, because that movie really made me mad and I want to do something about it.
No, I meant Twitard, it is a term us true vampire supporters use to describe those who, well first attempted to kill the vampire by putting in a, well I cannot call them what I usually call them, but also annoy us with constant bickering over the that stupid book. Just saying.
Oh and also to “Jasper”, quit using false titles or I will start using my own.
Mr. Wood, the project on Gay marriage is a very interesting one, I had to force my way through the bigoted arguments used against Gays Take a look at the NPR map and the separate state decisions concerning gay marriage. Pretty interesting.
In “The Bigots’ Last Hurrah” he said that the video has many parodies, which is true. I have one in general that pokes fun at the people in the video. I will post it up later since I cannot legally get on Youtube from school. And the map is very interesting, it has shown me that we have a crap load of bigots in the south.
And another thought, what if we had lost to Britain, would we have all of the positives that they have. And another thing, what if we just let the South go. Would they come crawling back to us.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cnui1JVTFGM&feature=channel_page This is the parody that one of the people I watch on Youtube made. He cureses alought and makes fun of every one in the commercial, but it is worth watching. Jacob…my computer is DEAD. No youtube at home. No youtube at school. Give me a week.
http://www.baseballmusings.com/archives/027559.php I read this article on you, it is a good one, sort of.
Sorry Mr. Wood, I forgot about that. But when your computer pulls a Jesus, watch it. lol.
Mr. Wood, do you think that anyone would agree with me that the government should have no right to tell you what you can and cannot do with your body. This is brought up because in a class we are writing about something that bothers us, I decided upon the anti-drug campaign that tells us that it is wrong but will not tell us why.
With marijuana legal in some countries and they seem to be doing fine, why do we worry so much. With places already legal to an extent, why do we not do the same thing. That is something I would like to know. I mean, I understand that people can die from it but, you can die from alcohol and tobacco and those are completely legal. What the hell is that, those can be legal but not something else. This bothers me in the sense that us people who try to go for more freedoms, well people like me anyway. That is just bothering me.
A solid argument – that certainly has shifted in regards to Medical Marijuana – that’s for sure! I don’t mind the “what the hell” but next time “what the heck” would probably work just as good – this is a family time blog you know. Your point is very well taken…in the end – it’s always money. Instead of wondering why marijuana isn’t legal…take a look at something like cigarettes is legal. It be interesting to know the amount of money that cigarette manufacturers spend each year lobbying congress.
Sorry for the language, I will try not to do that the next time I am on here.
I think I was watching MSNBC last night when they showed something, I started in the middle, it talked about how the blacks are angry because they are comparing the gay-right movement to the civil-rights movement, which it is. They went on to say that it will somehow kill us all and then gay would become the norm, this is one of the reasons I became an atheist, I do not want to get dragged down with these type of hypocrites. But what the news team said is what really made me angry, they said that it is different saying being gay is a choice and being black is not, when scienists have shown that it is a pre-input attraction to people of the same-sex, I always thought that the news had to be fair and equal and now the facts, even though I know that never happens.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2oZWpqtNi4 This is kind of strange, it is Charles Manson answering a question.
To be, or not to be Masochistic, that is my question. I believe I am and am not sure that is good or bad.
I am Masochistic, to an extent. Oh and is it okay if I start going by Pavichi or “Pavi” from now on.
I will be making a video series online, would it be ok if I post a link to the first video if I get it up before the end of school. I need as much help as I can get launching it.
http://www.flagsonline.it/asp/flag.asp/flag_ussr/ussr.html I am going to eventually buy the largest flag that they offer.
http://www.kiva.org/lender/BRV_paviche This is the link to my Kiva page.
Way to go Jacob!
http://www.kiva.org/lender/BRV This link does work.
Someone pointed this out to me on Kiva, the atheists and non-believers are the highest givers on Kiva. http://www.kiva.org/community I found it funny, oh and I will be forming my own group for anyone who wishes to join.
Mr. Wood,
I recently had to take a survey online for health care provided by the military. Well, when I was taking the survey they asked me how I would rate my doctor and health plan. On a scale of 0 to 10 (0 being the worst) and “I don’t know”, both fell on 1 or a 2. My mom had to take the same thing and she was giving 5’s or higher. So, I’m guessing she hasn’t totally explained our health plan (which has been discussed A LOT around the house). But from what she’s told me (and I understand it) it’s not the worst, but it still isn’t the best.
I just thought I’d let you know about that
Don’t forget Thursday and Friday!
http://www.kiva.org/team/akatsuki this is my team, it is a mixture of funny and some serious, but I mean most of the things on it. I am looking for members so if anyone wants to join, just join.
Got this in an E-mail from Obama’s team
Friend –
I am proud to announce my nominee for the next Justice of the United States Supreme Court: Judge Sonia Sotomayor.
This decision affects us all — and so it must involve us all. I’ve recorded a special message to personally introduce Judge Sotomayor and explain why I’m so confident she will make an excellent Justice.
Please watch the video, and then pass this note on to friends and family to include them in this historic moment.
Watch a special message from the President
Judge Sotomayor has lived the America Dream. Born and raised in a South Bronx housing project, she distinguished herself in academia and then as a hard-charging New York District Attorney.
Judge Sotomayor has gone on to earn bipartisan acclaim as one of America’s finest legal minds. As a Supreme Court Justice, she would bring more federal judicial experience to the Supreme Court than any Justice in 100 years. Judge Sotomayor would show fidelity to our Constitution and draw on a common-sense understanding of how the law affects our day-to-day lives.
A nomination for a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land is one of the most important decisions a President can make. And the discussions that follow will be among the most important we have as a nation. You can begin the conversation today by watching this special message and then passing it on:
http://my.barackobama.com/SupremeCourt
Thank you,
President Barack Obama
It really makes me mad when people have racist or any discrimination towards anyone! I dont understand how people can hate someone so cruelly without even knowing them or wanting to know them. The biggest issue right now is gay rights. I dont understand why or how people can hatesomething they dont understand like gays! Them being able to be married doesnt hurt us?! y should we care if they are married?! they are people just like us who deserve equal rights! and with the whole religion thing, god teaches you to accept everyone no matter they religon, background, or personal believes. I really hate when people twist the bible to make it say what they want it to say
“Despite the increase in world attention toward Sudan in the past months, the genocide in Darfur has continued without any serious attempt by the Sudanese government to do what governments primarily exist to do, protect their citizens.”
Tom Allen
I dont understand why the sudanese government or our government hasnt done anything to help the genocide. Before i learned about the genocide in sudan i couldnt see how the holocust went so long without any help but, now i see its all about power and our government being scared of doing anything!
As the year comes to an end, I reflect all the lessons I’ve learned both in school and out. Some lessons are self explanatory and others are learned over a gradual time. I have learned that ones parents are the most important asset of ones life. Another thing I learn is that my little sperm and egg didn’t come together in a third world country and I have nothing to bitch about, because there are people around the world that don’t even have food on the table to eat. And yet in this land we cry over not getting what we want….I did this to…but after going through Mr. Wood’s class my views have changed and from now on I will give aid to anyone in need or struggling in other countries….Mr. Wood over the summer if there are any protests or rallies please contact me, because I want to make a change in the world.
You’re right – the problems we have pale in comparison – to so many around the world. We have a responsibility to be compassionate to act in the name of justice, to make this planet a better place for ALL people. if that means we at least make ourselves and others around us aware of injustice…that’s a start! I’ll post through the summer on the blog – please stop by and post as well. And thanks for the kind words.
Hello to all!
Just an update on how my transition to college is going. I have started 2 classes now theater 101 and Psychology 201. My Psych class starts thursday but as far as my theater class goes. Things are hard. Honestly I don’t know what I expected. Like college classes are really going to be easy. anyway just to give you all an idea of what your in for I have to read around 2 chapters in my textbook each night each one consisting of more or less 20 pages. Its not all bad though I met some girls in the class. They’re kinda cute…..Anyway I am out meeting new people and forging my future.
I will keep you updated.
Tyler
Way to go Tyler! Thanks for the update!

This is one of the greatest sites I am part of.
http://www.grumper.org/profile.php?user_id=713505106
And this is my profile.
With the economy being so low and jobs being so scarce U.S officials are thinking of ways to bring the economy back up. With plenty of options going around and one of them is Marijuana. Legalizing marijuana with the right laws and with the right control of it could be a big economic boost. I just don’t understand why a herb that has been used for decades from ceremonial, to medicine, to food , and used for fiber purposes is named illegal. With an estimated 6.2 billion dollar profit from taxed marijuana in one year that’s more than any other cash crop. Other than the economy marijuana and medicine have been used way before us. Marijuana has been known to promote sleep, increases appetite, helps with anxiety, depression, and many other illness and disease. With so much of the world addicted to prescription pills and peoples lives being ruined by theses so called safe “drugs” marijuana could help reduce the number of people requiring prescription drugs. Marijuana has too many benefits towards medicinal purposes. To me it’s just seems like this could solve a lot of our problems.
One thing that has been on my mind is recently a 17 year old white boy was beat up by to black kids. The incident is being called non racial. I don’t understand how if it was the other way around and it was 2 white kids and a black kid got beat up it would be a hate crime. It don’t make since the it cant be racist unless it came from a white person. The story barley made the news. Now when anything happens to a minority it’s the number one story. Why is this?

(2000): “Illicit drug use is associated with suicide, homicide, motor-vehicle injury, HIV infection, pneumonia, violence, mental illness, and hepatitis. An estimated 3 million individuals in the United States have serious drug problems. Several studies have reported an undercount of the number of deaths attributed to drugs by vital statistics; however, improved medical treatments have reduced mortality from many diseases associated with illicit drug use. In keeping with the report by McGinnis and Foege, we included deaths caused indirectly by illicit drug use in this category. We used attributable fractions to compute the number of deaths due to illicit drug use. Overall, we estimate that illicit drug use resulted in approximately 17000 deaths in 2000, a reduction of 3000 deaths from the 1990 report.”

An exhaustive search of the literature finds no credible reports of deaths induced by marijuana. The US Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) records instances of drug mentions in medical examiners’ reports, and though marijuana is mentioned, it is usually in combination with alcohol or other drugs. Marijuana alone has not been shown to cause an overdose death.

This site shows the number of people in jail and prison for marijuana related crimes. The taxes we pay to keep theses non violent people away is ridiculous. Check it out for the official stats.

Well Nate…I think you made your POINTS! Good to see your posts!!!!!!
Mr. Woods we are sure making a difference in our government as it shows from the email I got back from Mary Valentine. I hope we get more students into this, so they dont lose the money they worked for their whole school career.
Great job Cody. Now lets start calling. And lets start moving that petition.
do you think its a good point Mr. Wood ?
Which one you had about a million. Anybody who knows that Ziggy Marely doesn’t have the soul of Bob Marley – and hears the difference has a good point to make. I always appreciate your input.
Bob,
I think the Red Sox have the wild card won. The Rangers have gone in a horrible funk by losing 5 of 6 at home against the M’s and A’s. They even got one-hit last night. It’s likely over. So, we’ll have the Yankees vs. Tigers and Angels vs. Red Sox in the AL and the Cardinals (my brother’s favorite team since he was 5) vs. Rockies and the Dodgers vs. Phillies.
I saw that you didn’t respond to my questions from last time, so I’ll post them again. Here they are.
A few quick questions.
Do you have a copy of your interview on Lettermans show when Dodger Dogs came out? If so, you should try to post it on here or YouTube. That would be cool to see.
Also, do you have any of the old photos from your Dodger Dogs trip? Those would also be a neat thing to post on here.
Finally, in Big Ten Country you wrote about how you had a desire to write a biography on Frank Sinatra. Do you still have any interest to do that?
Hope you have a good weekend.
Semper Fi,
James
So many questions James. Letterman – i have on videotape. I haven’t seen it in a while…and I have no idea how to post it. I have a lot of old Dodger Dogs photos but they aren’t sooooo good. I did have a start on a pretty good Sinatra bio. It was called “The Chairman’s Board” about a group of people in Philly who love him. But that was years ago. And Frank has passed. But it was a good idea. Anyhow…the Bosox will probably be in and they are my #2 pick to win the Series. #1 is anybody but the YANKEES!
Spartans lost again.
Dear Amici’s Pizza,
Hello, my name is Nick Eely. I am a student at Oakridge High School. In my second hour economic class we are discussing in class about your company going green. We spent a whole hour discussing your problems and positive out comes with going green. In the middle of the discussion I thought of a question that I could ask you. What made you decide to make Amici’s Pizza become a green restaurant? Is there anything in particular that made you go green? I also have another question for you. Since you have become green have you had more customers or more sales? I really hope that you can be a role model for other restaurants and hope they become green also. Thank you for your time in reading this e-mail and I hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you,
Nick Eely
Can you let us know when we can really send the e-mail?
Hold on Nick I haven’t posted because I haven’t heard yet if they will answer. Nice post though.
Hello, my name is Hilary Howard. I attend Oakridge High School in Muskegon, Michigan. In my Economics class we read the article about your restaurant going “green”. I found this article very interesting because I have never heard of a restaurant that had products and supplies that benefit the environment. I feel that our environment needs to be taken care of more. I would be very willing to come eat at your restaurant if I am in the area ever. My question for you though is, how long after you renovated the restaurant did it take for you to see the benefits from your changes? Thank you for your time.
No problem. I still haven’t gotten a response from Amici’s so we are kind of on a hold here. However, your letter to Congress is GREAT!
Dear Amici’s,
As I know you have a Green Restaurant being run. All of your napkins and boxes are all recyclable. What about your food? Is the food you make healthy choices ,or is your food just like every other restaurant?
Thank You For Your Time,
Cody C.
Cody – give us a little bit of time here. I still haven’t gotten anykind of response from Amici’s. I will post this week. Nice job.
I think this is adorable, but yet true ^.^
Enjoy!

OK Mr. wood i understand that you are very culture friendly I am to but when it comes down to the fact that we as American support problems of other places when we have homeless people here, we have kids who don’t eat for weeks and sleep in garbage cans. American is not as beautiful as people think. We have just as many problems as every one else. We just hide ours behind our fame and glory. We as a county need to realize that in the end its are country and are country alone that will stand up for us as people. Sending millions of dollars to help feed people in Africa, Mexico and any other foreign place just doesn’t make since. When there taking away scholarships for collage because of debt . It just dose not make since the promise scholarship could be saved if there weren’t millions of dollars being spent to save every one else. Look at OUR country we have no jobs no homes people dying every day due to illness and disease. I no Africa and the AIDS, and Genocide are major problems but we have our major problems to we have aids in our country we have people being murdered , raped, tortured. To me you cant make anything or anyone happy or better with out your self being happy or bettered. When our county is safe and free of fear and death. Then we can and will help out every one else. You don’t see other countries sending us food or clean water or cloths. This country needs those supplies just as much as any one else. I no your not going to agree and i understand but to me it just seems like it would be right.
I Agree with you on soooooo many of these issues. Particularly that we must take care of our own. And for sure that we are not as nearly as wonderful a nation as we see ourselves. We have so much potential. And you are it! You have so much potential. Look at you – you actually know that Ziggy Marley doesn’t have the soul of dad…and the words are just that – words. We are on this planet together – the first world has spent so much time accumulating wealth on the backs of the third world – we have a moral responsibility to care about others – on all the continent. Our money problems and our college problems and our health care problems and homeless problems are not because of donations to the third world. We really spend a tiny portion of our GDP on those endeavors. We don’t take care of our own – because we do not choose to. We are still a representative democracy – even if we choose not to get involved in a constructive intelligent way – we allow our representatives to be swayed by lobbyists that represent interests other than the poor, the needy, the youth. It’s not our government that is the problem Nate, it is WE the people. Change that! You could do wonders in college – you are intelligent guy. Come on…do your best – change the world. Help to FIX it!
I hate Ann Coulter. This video is very acurate.

OK Mr Wood
I have a question. But before I ask I have to tell you why I am bringing this question up. My brother and I were just talking about the Promise. He asked me “what if we got another terrorist attack before November 1st, would we keep it, because we are already in dept or would we cancel it and try to save money or put money towards the damage?”
My opinion was that we would keep it. I mean if we put money towards the damage yea it will help our country, but if we give it to students then maybe more and more students would help pick up and build because they are so stoked that they got it.
So my question to you Mr. Wood is “What do you think? Do you think we would keep it? Or get rid of it?”
I don’t think that a terrorist attack would much impact on the Promise. The Promise is a state funded program…anything that deals with national defense or Homeland Security would be Federal. So I don’t think it would have much of an impact.
Hey Mr. Wood,
As you may know President Obama recently got the Noble Peace prize for basically not doing a whole lot so far in his young presidency.. Do you think he will get it again when he starts doing a ton more. Like when he passes health insurance for everyone in the future and gets us out of the recession.
just wonderin? I don’t know what will happen – I don’t think he’s going to pass real health care reform. Our nation is so divided and so dysfunctional politically. Dems hate Republicans and Republicans hate Democrats. It’s ugly. It’s often so stupid. It’s totally counterproductive. So, Obama? I don’t know. I trust him. I trust his compassion and his intelligence. I do think he will continue to TRY to do the right thing. But I don’t know.
Also one more question. 10 years from now could i see u running for a political position. Because it seems like you know a ton about politics and youve experienced other countrys. So you have that edge on the issues other than our own Thanks Cody – I love what I’m doing. I want to do whatever I can to Wake up bright guys like you – to try to make this a better planet. I look at politics and I see so many sell their ideals out for a vote or a party. In the end – when it comes to politicians – I don’t know anymore what people truly stand for. It makes me sad that our nation has come to this. We live in an angry, ignorant, and too often uncaring world. You all can change that – it’s your generation now…your world. Do something wonderful with it!
Here is a green article for you:

I found this funny, I typed in “furo ukiyo” into the yahoo search and the blog came up. I think it is because of me and Will’s back and forth. That’s pretty cool.

First of all Mr. Wood you really should clear this page so that it isn’t so big. I mean there is still stuff on here from 2008.
Anyway, here is a lesson to you all about the great education you are getting here at Oakridge. Although some of you may disagree trust me it can be much worse.
The other day in my Philosophy class we started presentations of our opinions on controversial topics and although I do not wish to explain the stupidity of this person I feel it is a good way of judging the great education you all get from Mr. Wood on a daily basis. Here in college I have stumbled across many things that I found that I needed to use the knowledge from his class that just last year I thought was stupid and that I would never use. This is just an example of this. Anyway, this kid in my class did his presentation and he suggested living in a society where everybody is free to do whatever they want as long as it doesn’t infringe on the freedom of another, and I thought to myself this is already a society we live in and agreed. But then his presentation turned for the worse he suggested in this society there would be a government and all three branches like in today’s society however there would be no taxes. My jaw dropped. He stated that everything would be privatized roads (which means every road is a toll road) , police, everything. So we drilled him for a half hour on why he was wrong. It was beautiful and strange at the same time because the other day all of them were shouting for lower taxes and today they are shouting for the importance of them. It was then that I noticed that the people that were talking did not say a thing about taxes on the first day when everyone was complaining. The people who had argued for taxes stayed silent as they learned of their importance. How could we have a privatized police force? The police simply would be bought out by larger corporations and used to attack and enslave the poor who couldn’t afford the police. We talked about how taxes pay for military that in his example he did not get rid of. He believed that enough money could be made for the government by them giving out loans to people. How naive.
Anyway I thought this would be a great topic for you guys to think about I would love to hear your input.
My sincere Thoughts from college
Tyler Darnell
Thank you Tyler – so nice to hear from you…I will clean out the Free speech board
Mr. Wood…
I’m feeling a little blue. We still have to go out for coffee because that was the first thing we were going to do and we haven’t. So lets make some plans!

I have a question and would really like it if you could reply to this as soon as possible.
How many frequent flyer miles do you need to go round trip from Michigan to England? It depends on the airline that you are flying. I don’t know…why? Doesn’t the broom work on trans Atlantic flights?
Alrighty, thanks. Well, I’m able to get flyer miles and I need to know how many I need to get. I want to go to England and visit my friends. And I know they’d show me around ^.^ I just really want to go over there ^.^
