Michigan Promise & YOU

“Read here about our trip to Lansing” On Tuesday September 29 ten of us drove up to Lansing to deliver 2340 petition signatures to our elected representatives and  to lobby the Governor and the majority leaders of the Senate and the House in an effort to Save the Michigan Promise.

Petition to Save the Michigan Promise. Print it.  Enlarge to 11 X 17.  Circulate it and return to Senior Current Issues class by Monday September 28.  All signed petitions will be delivered to the Governor on September 29, 2009.

The deadline for the 2010 Michigan State budget is midnight September 30.  The Michigan Promise sits smack dab on the chopping block.  Oakridge Senior Current Issues and dozens of juniors, as well as past graduates have formed a coalition to save the Michigan Promise.  Check below for all the ways you can be involved.

Petitions – We are circulating a petition to save the Promise which will be delivered to the Lansing State Capitol on Tuesday September 29.  See any SCI student if you would like to sign our petition – you can also find a PDF copy of the petition here.  If you download the petition, remember before circulating it to enlarge the document to official 11 X 17 size.  All petition signatures need to be collected by Monday September 28, in order to join the delivery to Lansing.

Flyers – Seniors have created several informational flyers to spread the word on the Promise, the budget, and the October 1 deadline.  Check above.  Feel free to download the flyer and run off copies to inform citizens of our cause.

Get Involved – We have all sorts of opportunities for you to be involved with us on this cause.   Just  come into room 112 and sign up to call or email or bring a friend and do a podcast.  Also, you can always continue to come into the classroom pick up blank petitions and available flyers.  Come join us.  Get involved!  Change the world!
