Kids next year should be ready to get a ton of stuff thrown at them at once. I’ve had almost 4 projects I needed to work on all at once.

Don’t use half of your ability or go into this class to just fool around or just to get credits. You need to be fully involved and not lazy.
The Art 21 movies are fun and so are the projects.

Born in Brothels was an insightful film. It was an interesting documentary. Something next year students should know is that friday is movie day and the Art 21 movie set has a bunch of odd people in it.

Well, to the kids coming in next year, be prepared to juggle your time. You will have to learn how to work on multiple projects at the same time which isn’t always easy, so you will have to get used to trying to complete more then one project at a time. But as long as you stay on task and do the work when you are supposed to you souldn’t have to worry.

You’ll learn mainly about Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Expect plenty to keep you busy later on in the year. Macs are frustrating, so bring plenty of headache medicine.

As long as you do your best with what you work on, you’ll be fine…

Oh, but the binder stuff will drive you crazy, if the MACs don’t first!

Kid of next year should expect to be forced to embrace the pen tool.. : P

And this class is really entertaining, there is never a dull moment and there is ALWAYS something to be done. Oh yeah and the teachers rock!!

though you will start the year wanting it to be over… it’ll end with you wishing it was just beginning. you’ll meet all sorts of new and exciting people, but don’t burn the bridges needed. no matter how much you think they know nothing, your parents know more than you think. true friends will forgive you and truer friends will forget completely. never underestimate what you’re capable of. you are in charge of your own life, so plan according. you will learn so much in this class. not just about c.a. but about life in general. dont be afraid to get close to each other and talk to Mrs.Brown and Mrs.Bell. they want to understand. smile, laugh at everything, and live your life. be the best you, that you can be.

I think the class next year should be ready to get Organized! You will still learn a lot in this class. Not even just about the programs, but also about your own style. Plus seeing other peoples’ styles is awesome!

    Good luck!

We did a lot of interesting things in this class. We watched some pretty cool movies. Excluding the ones with Mr. Ratty. We went on a bunch of different excursions this year also. We take trips to the gallery, which I always found intriguing. You get to get ideas from other people and experience different art forms. I think that for any one coming in next year as a new experience they should be prepared to learn about illustrator and photo shop (filter effects). The filter effects was one of my favorites. Before I came here I would have liked to have been warned about the pen tool on illustrator. When you first experience it, you think whoa hold on here, but if you practice it gets better, but it can be annoying. But just have fun with it, its a good experience and I’m glad I was a part of it.

Each project in this class is different, and each one gives you a certain challenge. Besides the projects, we visit the galleries and each one is interesting. We also visited one or two colleges. You meet someone new and make new friends. You have to work together or work alone-you learn to do both.

Advice: Make sure you’re on task, and you should be fine. It’s alright to talk to your friends once and a while, but you shouldn’t talk ALL the time and not do your work. Get ready to love the pen tool, it will be your best friend for the majority of the projects. Best of all, do your best with a positive outlook.

The class is pretty epic, but you have to stay on task. We watch movies, most of them are bearable, but the others are torture. One thing you must be warned about is the freakin’ pen tool, it’s either your best friend or your enemy. And lastly, worship thy Chuck Norris at least twice a day. AND ENHOY!

When enrolling yourself into the Muskegon Commercial Arts program, you are signing yourself up for a class with a lot of computer use(iMac). You will gain knowledge and skills on such programs as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, iMovie, and iDVD. Stay on task, ask questions, and express yourself appropriately, censorship is a common factor of any basic classroom setting.

    Oh&bring your Ipod.

The main thing i would say is don’t procrastinate, when you get a assignment or project, start working on it right away. Also, keep all the papers you get and organize your binder. Do that and you should be safe.

    Ahh Yesss.
The future Commercial Art kids should definitely be ready to do work, Whether they want to or not, It may seem boring. But to use your creative mind to bring interest to what your doing. =]

Here’s what to expect. Expect to learn how to work as if you were an employee at at company, that includes working with others, doing your work and not goofing off, behave approperiately, and get your work in by deadline. Of course you dont get paid and Mrs. Brown will take it alot easier on you than a boss, you should still do your work as if it WERE a job, because this class is to prepare you for the visual art business but covers how you should be at ANY business. It is tough at times, but it can be alot of fun believe it or not. Most, if not all your projects consist of guidlines you must follow, but what you do with it and create, is totally up to you! I love that freedom. Everyone is close to one another and its a comforting environment with art, music, and good people. Just do your work, keep a smile on your face, have fun and be creative. Just don’t ruin all the perks Mrs. Brown gives you, because they help make it a more pleasant expirence.
