Course Learning Objectives:
- Students will understand map reading and what the symbols on a map represent.
- Students will understand early civilization of the Western Hemisphere.
- Students will be able to describe the human and physical characteristics of Canada, United States, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean Islands.
- Students will understand the purposes of Government in the Western Hemisphere.
- Students will understand business choices and uses of geography in planning for the future.
- Students will understand the importance of resources.
- Students will understand the different economic systems in the Western Hemisphere.
- Students will understand human migration.
- Students will understand the uses of geography.
Course Activities:·
Students will create maps using symbols showing the patterns of population, physical terrain, rainfall, and vegetation of the Western Hemisphere.·
Students will create maps of individual countries in the Western Hemisphere and present them to the class.·
Students will research and describe the characteristics of early civilization.·
Students will research individual countries in the Western Hemisphere and report on the following:
Human and physical characteristics of the country. Purposes of the government Business choices Uses of geography Resources Economic systems Migration ~ who and why
These reports will be presented to the class orally.
· Write persuasive essays using the Core Democratic Values as the basis for their argument.
