…requires new skills including using technology, understanding science, global awareness, and the ability to keep learning.

The old skills implied by this are the traditional 3 R’s.

This sounds suspiciously like a liberal arts education. I usually advocate getting a liberal arts degree because it teaches you to think, reflect inward, empathize outward and then act on a well thought decisions. In addition, however, one needs to get some specific training or skills.

This training can come from places like New Horizons or Community Colleges. It boils down to six years of higher schooling, not four. I know I got liberal arts exposure in my first two years and my major subject in the last two at GVSU. I don’t think I got enough of the hard academics like that provided by my first two examples.
