Week 4 Questions 4th Hour
Question #1
OK, here we go again. I think that many of you missed the point of last week’s question. It makes me feel good to know that so many of you believe in God regardless of what others may think or say. Many of you even tried to prove His existence. This, however, was not the question. The question is basically this…
Let us assume that God does exist–not that we have to prove that He does–He already exists. If this is true, does it matter whether a person believes He exists? Will He still exist even if Billy Bob or Mohinder has never heard of Him? Does it matter if they are atheists? Does their belief change the fact that He exists? Can God exist only for those who believe in Him or does He always exist–if we already assumed that He exists?
Don’t try to convince me that He does. I liked all your responses of how you tried to prove His existence, but right now, we already are assuming that He does.
The other side…
If there is no God, does it matter how much I believe that He exists? Does my belief in God make Him exist? Again don’t tell me the Religion answer. Tell me what your answer to this question is.
This brings us to the 2nd part of the question…
If pollution or global warming or the misuse of technology exists, does it matter if I believe it? Don’t give me your opinion on these categories–you are just giving me your position. That is not the question. Let us assume that global warming exists. Does it matter that I think that global warming is a hoax? Does it matter that the reports I read tell me that GW is silly. If it really is true, does my opinion change this?
Also, let us say that GW is not real. Does it matter that I firmly believe that GW is happening at an alarming rate. If it really isn’t happening, does my opinion change this?
Next part…
Can both opinions be right? Can you ask two people whether or not God exists, get two opposite views, and both be right? Can a person believe in something very strongly and be wrong–or–is truth based on how strongly you believe in something? Ask yourself the same for environmental issues. Can two opposing views both be correct?
Finally…
Restate Acts 1:8. How does this commission apply to the questions above? Or doesn’t it? Why or why not?
Question 2:
What is fractional crystallization?

question 1. ok regardless to your opinion if we know for a fact that global warming is real your theory dosent matter, its fact aganist, assumption. in the case of god yes both opinions can be correct, because it has not been scientifically proven that god really exist its just a belie in the christian faith. just because someone has a strong belief about something doesn mean their right they just convinced themselves that what they believe is true.
acts1:8 has nothing to do with global warming.but it does have something to do with the question of gods existance. acts 1:8 confirms that we are all gods people and witnesses and he has given us the power to protect and control his earth. if you are a christian you might believe that, but to the non believers you may have trouble digesting that, well wait till the end of the world and ask yourselves, as humans we all see god how we want
God cannot exist in a persons eyes if they do not believe in God. While in the outside world signs of God are all over but a person makes their own choice and thats what their beliefs are. Billy Bob may not believe in God so he sees no God, but for someone who does beleive in God he is there. Yes, both people’s opinions can be wrong. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, and to someone God may not exist, but to another God does exist. And that applies to the science aspect of this question too. The person who believes in these ideas are going to believe in them and find evidence to back themselves up. But people who do not believe in it will have evidence to back themselves up. The answer to both of these questions can be both yes and no. The answer to both of these questions is based on what these people believe personally.
We can apply Acts 1:8 to both of these statements because it is telling us to go out and proclaim God’s word because the Holy Spirit will be with us and guiding us to the right answer. The Holy Spirit will be there to guide us and help us. God told us we must take care of those around us, and by spreading the truth we are taking care of others. Acts 1:8 is telling us to do what we believe is right because God will always help us and be with us.
Fractional crystallization is a process by which a chemical compound is separated into components by crystallization. In fractional crystallization the compound is mixed with a solvent, heated, and then gradually cooled so that, as each of its constituent components crystallizes, it can be removed in its pure form from the solution.

Acts 1:8 “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Jesus said the Holy Spirit will give us the strong and courage be Christian witnesses to world. We are asked to be Jesus’ representative, so if global warming is a fact then I am called to judge the issue as Jesus. I am asked to act as Jesus would on this issue. U dig
No matter what someones opinion might be, if God exists, then he exists and no ones opinion can change that. It is the same way with global warming because if it is there, but someone just doesn’t believe in it, its still there. Just because someone does not believe in something, does not mean that its not there. Both of these statements are yes because just because of a strong opinion on a certain subject, doesn’t make the opinion right. Acts 1:8 relates to these situations because it is saying that the Holy Spirit will be with us, and that we should go out and preach God’s word, the truth.
Fractional Crystallization is a process by which a chemical compound is separated into components by crystallization. In fractional crystallization the compound is mixed with a solvent, heated, and then gradually cooled so that, as each of its constituent components crystallizes, it can be removed in its pure form from the solution.
There is a quote from a movie called Secondhand Lions and it says, “Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most… Doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. You see, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in.” I agree with this statement. It’s saying whether or not something is actually true, if you believe in it then there is nothing that is going to stop you from doing so. I think this response applies more to the question on God, but I do believe that you can receive two opposing views about him and have both be correct (if we are refraining from talking about this from a religious standpoint). For the GW issue, I also believe that you can think what you want about it, but that it is very hard to ignore it when there are clear side effects happening all around you. I think that GW would be a harder one to firmly stand by the opinion of “it’s whatever you believe for yourself,” but I think it is still mostly up to the individual’s personal opinion, and both can be right.
Acts 1:8 says You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes down on you; then you are to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samria, yes, even to the ends of the earth. This can reflect both issues because it is saying with the help of the Holy Spirit we will be led to the right thing (right opinion), and also it is saying that we need to help and take care of the earth around us which brings us back to the GW issue.
Your opinion is your own opinion. It doesn’t matter if what you believe is true or not. If God exists and you believe that he does, then he does exist. But if He exists and you don’t think He exists, then He doesn’t exist to you. He may exist to everyone else around you, but he won’t necessarily exist to you. If there is no God, then it doesn’t matter how much you believe that He does because if you truly believe that He exists, then He does.
If global warming or pollution is a huge problem and you don’t think that they exist, then you don’t think that they exist. You should stick to your opinion and believe whatever you want. I would say that your opinion might change because if global warming isn’t real and you think that it is a serious problem, then everyone will think that you’re crazy and you probably wouldn’t want people thinking that.
Yes, both opinions can be right. It just depends on whom you are asking. Everyone’s opinion is right to them, even if everyone else thinks that their opinion is wrong.
Acts 1:8 can be applied to the above questions because it is telling us to go out and do God’s work by telling others that He exists and by being good to the earth that He created.
Question 1:
The existence of God cannot cease to exist unless everyone in the world did not believe in him. If one person believes God does not exist, then, to that specific person, God will not exist. The fact that a single person does not believe in God doesn’t affect the overall existence of him. The same type of rule applies for the pollution statement. If a person is ignorant of the issue of pollution, then the problem does not simply vanish. The problem will continue in its entirety. Acts 1:8 states that we, who know of important matters, must educate the ignorant people of the earth. It is our responsibility to make known the existence of God and pollution.
I think that the answer to this question is quite clear. If it is a fact that God exists, then nobody’s belief can change that fact. If somebody does not believe in him or has not heard of God, God does not cease to exist just because of those factors. If it is known that God exists, then he exists simply because it is a known fact. Beliefs cannot change what is true or factual, regardless of how strong they are. Therefore, God always exists even if some people may not believe that he does. This same concept also applies to the other side of things. If it is a fact that God does not exist, then nobody’s belief in him can make him exist.
If pollution or Global Warming or the misuse of technology exists, then it exists no matter what somebody may think of them. It does not matter that somebody thinks they are all a hoax because if it is known fact that they exist, then nobody’s opinion on them can change that fact. If GW is not real though, and you believe that it is actually occuring, that does not all of the sudden make it real. Your opinions or beliefs cannot alter truth.
If two people have opposing opinions, then only one of those opinions have the possibility of being correct. The person’s opinion that is correct is the opinion that is backed up by facts and not just beliefs. If somebody believes that God exists and somebody else believes that he does not, the correct opinion is determined by whether it is a fact that God exists or not. If God does exist and its a known fact that he does, then the person who believes in him has the correct opinion. The person who does not believe in God has the wrong opinion if it is a fact that God exists. The strength of one person’s beliefs do not determine what is true, facts do. This is the same for the issues on GW and pollution.
Finally, Acts 1:8 states, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes down on you; then you are to by my witnesses in Jeruasalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, yes, even to the ends of the earth.” This applies to the questions in the sense that it is telling us to spread truth to nonbelievers. It is commissioning us to help people realize that truth is based on fact and not beliefs, and so they should believe what is true.
#1. I believe that it does not matter at all if some people have never heard of God or don’t think that God exists. God always has existed, and God always will exist. The only place that God does not exist in is the minds of those people that have never even heard of God. God is still able to help these atheists in their everyday lives by giving them the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide them, even if they do not even know it. God exists to help everyone on this earth that He created. Even if God does not exist, my belief still makes God exist to me and to everyone else that beklieves in God. God will always be present in all of our minds, even if He is not real. Also, GW will exist even if many people do not believe that it actually exists. It will still occur if it is real, and it will affect the lives of everyone, not just the people that believ in it. If it is not real, it will also exist in the minds of the people that believe that it exists, and it will affect the world because these people will try to change their lives to prevent it from becoming worse, which could make the world better in the long run. Both opposing views about God can be correct because God can exist to some people that strongly believe in Him, but , even though He is still present in their lives, He does not exist to someone that has never heard of God. The same can be said for GW. There is proof to back up either side of the argument, and people that strongly believe either side can be correct, as long as they can back up their opinions with facts. Acts 1:8 can be applied to both problems because it tells people that they need to get out there and spread their opinions and facts about each problem, and then they can let people decide for themselves if they want to bleieve on side or the other because both can be proved to be right.
Ok, if you believe in God or not, God always exists. It’s not a question of opinion. If God exists, he will always be there even if no one believes in him. God exists for everyone, believers and nonbelievers. On the other hand if God does not exist but you believe that he does, he does not exist. In any case it does not matter what your opinion, he either is really there or he is not. Just because you believe in him does not make it real if he truly does not exist. If GW exists but you think it’s a hoax it still is there. There is scientific proof that it does exist. Different aspects that make GW seem real or not can change your feelings towards it but it does not change the fact the it is real or it is not. In both of these cases opinions really do not matter. It either is there or it is not. Acts 1:8 tells us to go and find the right answer. It tells us not just to go out with your opinions and make judgements, it tells us to use our knowledge to find the true answer.
I disagree with Kayleigh because someone’s opinion does not change another things existence. Something is either there or it’s not, an opinion has no effect on that.
Whether or not something exists is not solely based on the beliefs of people. No one first believed Galileo when he said that the planets in the solar system didnt revolve around the earth but around the sun, but that didnt mean that it was the truth. Soon afterward it became clear that what he had said was true. In simpler words, the belief of someone does not affect whether or not something exists. The same goes for things such as GW, just because someone chooses to or not to believe in something then that doesnt make it exist or not exist. Both opinions can be right in different peoples minds. They are right in the veiw of some and wrong in the veiw of others. Truth is not based on how strongly you believe in something. Acts 1:8 applies to these questions because we need to preach what we believe to others.
Question 1
i feel that sense God is truly there it doesn’t matter if you believe in him or not. If you dont believe in him that is not going to change his exsistance, and if you do believe in him, his presence is just going to be more obvious to you. So as much as people my want to deny God and not believe in him he is still there.
This is the same for pollution, and global warming. As much as people dont believe in it, and ignore it. IT is still there, and can have a big impact on our lives. Just like if we ignore God there will be consequences in the end.
as Acts says we are suppose to listen to the holy spirit to guide us to what is right, and we need to help protect our earth, it is part of our job from God
question 2
Fractional crystallization is a process by which a chemical compound is separated into components by crystallization. In fractional crystallization the compound is mixed with a solvent, heated, and then gradually cooled so that, as each of its constituent components crystallizes, it can be removed in its pure form from the solution.

If God exists and its a fact, wheter you try to brush it off or not, he exists. Belief has nothing to do for something if it is a proven fact that he exists. On the other hand, if no proof is there, there is a possiblity he does exist. I guess believing in him won’t essentially make him real, but a mental figure resembling him can easily be formed. You can have answers yes and no to both sides. It all depends on who you ask.
For GW, if its real its real. You can try not to believe it but if its a proven fact, then you cannot voice your opinion over the top of it.
If a person does not believe in God then, at least from the point of view of someone who believes in God and is a believing Catholic, God exists. To that individual who may not have any knowledge or does not have enough convincing evidence in God then they may not believe, but that will not cause God disappear from the world due to the non belief of just one or just a few people. Even if Mohinder had never heard of him he is still there, just because you do not believe does not mean that he is not there.
On the other hand, if there is no God a strong belief or testimony about him will not make him actually appear. In your mind you may completely think he is there, but if he is not actually present in the world than no belief will make that different
In contrast, the issue of pollution or the misuse of technology can exist or not exist based on opposing opinions of people. Starting with pollution, to one person something being done may not actually be considered pollution to them, where to another person’s standards they could think it is polluting the environment. The same goes for technology misuse. One person may believe that something they are doing is completely justifiable, where as, someone else could see that same action as being a misuse of the technology. Since, there is no exact rule or measurement for what pollution or technology misuse is, its existence can be there or it cannot due to what a person believes it to be. Although, if you have no knowledge on the subject at all you cannot just say it is not there, only a person who has studied or knows of the pollution is able to make a judgment on the subject.
In the end, two opinions can both be correct, God is a more material thing, he is something and that cannot be taken away by a nonbeliever or created by a strong believer. Whereas, Pollution does not have substance or specific measure, so the thoughts of one person of what pollution is can be different than what another person believes it to be.
Acts 1:8 relates loosely to both of the points made before. It talks of how you should know God and spread his message all over the earth. It relates to the point of pollution, because it also states the need to care for the earth. This would involve knowing what is happening and then once you know doing something to make it better.
I think that it matters if others believe that he exists. It would be weird if only you believed and no one else did. You wouldn’t know then if you should believe if he is true. When others believe in him, it makes it easier for you and others believe that he exists. If they were Athiests they heard of a God and say that they don’t believe in him, but who knows they might actually believe and try to cover it. I think that God exists for everyone but those who believe have an advantage of those who don’t. I think that it matters how much you believe in him. It makes him seem to exist to you if you believe in him. If the misuse of technology, pollution, or global warmning exists i think it matters if you believe in it. If you believe in it you try to help out the environment and prevent them. I think if you said it was a hoax that it would effect how others think. They might believe it and stop doing things to prevent it cause they don’t believe it. If you think it is happening at an alarming rate people might begin to act upon it. I think that two opposing things could be true when talking about beliefs. If they can back it up with something that seems to make sense, both can be right.Acts 1:8 “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” It is telling us to go out and proclaim God’s word because the Holy Spirit will be with us and guiding us to the right answer. The Holy Spirit will be there to guide us and help us. God told us we must take care of those around us, and by spreading the truth we are taking care of others.
Okay again I feel that we are trying to compare to totally unlike subjects, comparing “apples to oranges” if you will… On a faith based subject it does matter whether you beleive in it or not to make it really be there or not. Meaning that if you beleive in God then he is there, and if you don’t beleive in God he is not there. In this situation it can go both ways. But in the situation of global warming and pollution, it doesn’t matter what you beleive in, it is still going to be there.
Kersti! I completely agree with you, if someone does not believe in God then to that person God does not exist, and you can’t make someone believe that he exists even will all the evidence in the world. As you stated, your opinion is your own opinion! way to go girl
oh tersti.
I agree with Alyssa because God will always exist no matter what, even if some people do not think that God exists.
I disagree with Ben because I think that someone’s belief in God has nothing to do with whether he exists. Obviously if God exists and that’s a known fact, someone not believing in him does not make his existence all of the sudden go away. Someone’s belief cannot determine what’s true, and that is why I disagree with Ben.
I disagree with kaleigh because someones opinion or belief cannot change whether something exists or not.
I agree with Sean. If someone believes in something or not, it doesn’t make it right or wrong, or mean that it exists. It is just their own belief and how they feel about something. It can be true with others, or it may not.
I agree with what Alyssa said about how God exists no matter what people think. One or two denials of his existence doesn’t change the fact that he exists.
i to disagree with ben because everybody already know there is a God. ALso to the only reason why warming and pollution are there is because we as human dont do nothing about it. God cant do everthing for us we have to do our part to.
I agree with Tommy because God’s existence does depend on who you ask. If you ask a Catholic if they believe in God, they’ll say yes. But if you ask an athiest if they believe in God, they’ll say no.
I agree with Scott because I think you can believe in anything you want regardless of if it is true or not.
