Question 1.
Yes, believing that God exists doesn’t garentee that you’ll end up living with him in heaven, because of hell. People believe in God, but still sin, and if they are not forgiven for their sin they’ll go to hell.
No, as I just said people believe in God but still commit sin.
As of right now, me. I believe in God but the way I live my life style I’m not a 100% sure I’d be going to heaven if I died right now, because of my sin.
No, using Pascal’s Wager for the existance of God is showing God that you’re unsure about his existance. You’re only betting that he does exist.
No, if all you do is believe in enviromental issues then whoopty doo, if you think there is something wrong you’ve got to do something about it.
March 2nd, 2009 at 4:56 pm
Of course you can beileve that God exists and not end up in heaven.
In James Chapter 2 verses 19 and 20 say
“19Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? ”
So it basically says “So what if you BEILEVE in God, even the demons beileve in God–but if you don’t live your life right AND beileve, your faith is useless.”
I don’t know if I can say if I beileve that someone is destined for Hell because that’s such a huge finger to point…but if I could pick anyone, I’d say those rappers who say the “F”-word in every song and thank God at award shows would be on the list. If your line of work doesn’t glorify God in any way– I dont think you shoulf thank Him onstage.
Based on what I’ve been taught about faith, I don’t think that anyone who follows Pascal’s Wager can truly follow God because instead of trusting Him entirely with your life, you just follow him with a “Just in case” attitude.
Oh–crap Mr. Holt– I already knew about James before you told us because I studied it last year….
Will I lose points for including James as support?
From personal expierence with protesting, I know that If someone just beileves that there is an environmental issue, that won’t change anything because “Faith without Deeds is dead!”

If you do believe in God that does not mean that you are for sure going to heaven. You need to follow what he wants you to do in life. Sometimes if you believe in him and just say you do that is not enough to get to heaven.
If you believe in God it is not enough to save you. First of all you need to follow the ten commandments and help spread Gods word. Another thing you can do is go to church and learn as much as you can about God, not just go once a month.
No i can not think of someone who believes in God and is not going to heaven. Only God can know who is going to heaven for sure, no one on earth does.
If you believ in God this does not mean you will have enternal life, you need to do alot more for you to have eternal life.
To i really dont know if you can go to heaven if you follow the Pascal’s wager, only God knows that. But if i had to choose i would have to say no, you will not be able to go to heaven if you follow it.
No it is not enough if someone believes in environmental issues because once they know the problem they have to take the steps to fix it, and they have to convince others of there believes as well. You need more then one person to believe in something.
After i read james my status has not change. I believe that it is saying the same thing i was, about you cant just believe in him you have to show him that you do believe in him.
March 4th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
No I do not believe that because you have to believe in God to go to Heaven. Reason why is because by believing in God in your life. That will give you award to go to Heaven. Your relationship with your faith will deepen. If you do not believe in God, you will have a difficult time geting to Heaven. God will save you. You have to truly believe in him and be like a christian.
There is a person who does believe in God, but will be destined for Hell. The person I can think of would be Hitler. Reason why I would say that because Hitler thought what he was doing with the jews was a good thing to do in life. He thought that he was not doing a problem. He just wanted power and that’s all he thought was. No I do not think that they have to use the Wager statement, because you can use your own religion to believe in God. There are many ways to believe in God. Everyone has there own kind of faith to believe in God. I do think that’s enough information for a scientist to tell us that’s there environment problem. They know what they are talking about, they went to school to learn about it. I would believe them, if they told me and came up with facts about it.
My answer was right because I was listening to the scientist, if they told me about the problem. I would have believed them. It’s a fact to believe that it’s true. There can not be a possible way to think that it’s untrue. They have facts for you to believe, just like the Bible verse showed.

Question #1.
Yes it is possible to believe in God and not end up in heaven. I say that because you could sin and that sin would cause you not to end up in heaven. If you do sin and you tell the priest, then there is a possibility that you will make it into heaven.
No the belief in God is not enough to save you. You have to put more of your faith and body into believe that God is there.
No i cant think of someone who believes in God and is going to hell. I bet there are people in jail who believe in God and are destined for hell. They could be destined for hell in a couple of ways. The first way is killing someone. The second is sin.
If you do believe in God, you are not destined for enternal life because you have to show that you believe in God. You have to do more than what is expected.
No i dont think that someone who uses Pascal’s Wager can truly live for God. I say that because how do you know if you are fully believeing in God and how do others know.
Yes, if someone believes there is environmental that is enough. I say that because it is ones own thinking and understansing.
After reading James 2:14-26, my opinion does change. My opinion changes because the bible verse talks about how faith is similar to deeds and how deeds are similar to faith.
March 4th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
I think that you can believe in God and now beleive of being in heaven with him. I think this because anyone can beleive whatever they want to and if that is what they beleive then it is what they belive even if it is not true.
I think that if you beleive in God then it will save you from your sins. This does not mean that everyone believes the same thing as me though. Some people may not think so and that is their choice to think that.
I do not think that anyone who doesnt believe in God is destined from Hell. That is just a bad thing to think and no one should go to Hell or be considered someone like that just because they dont believe in something.
My personal beliefs prove to ME that i will go into eternal life after i die. I believe in God and i have a strong faith and that is just what i think. That doesnt mean that others have to beleieve it or not, i just do.
I do not think that if you use Pascals Wager for your faith and that is it, then you are truly beleiveing in God. You shouldnt have to have someone tell you for it to be true.
If someone believes in environmental issues then thats their opinion. That doesnt make it right or wrong, it could go both ways.
My opinion stayed the same after reading thatpart of the scripture. I think this because i beleive what i want to, i am not going to have something just convince me that fast(in a reading) to change my ways.

for me, i think that just because a person belives in god, dosent mean that they are going to go to heaven. for example if a person is a mass murderer but belives in god, i still dont think that they are going to live with god. or at least if that is how its going to work, then what is the incentative to be good.
basically what im saying is that no, just because a person belives in god dosent mean that they are going to be saved.
i half joke and serious say that i am going to hell, so for me a person who belives in god and is still going to go to hell would probably be me. i say that it would be me to go to hell, becasue i bread like every single commandment it seems like.
i dont think that someone using Pascal’s Wager for the existence of God can truly live becasue Pascal’s Wager is just his idea, its not the church’s, and i think that the only one that counts is what the church has to say.
to me, i really think that it dosent really matter what one person thinks, the only thing that matters is the facts, and the only one who has the facts exactly correct is god.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
it is very possible to not end up in Heaven even if you believe in Him. Saying and doing are two different things. people could SAY they believe in God and not really do anything to praise Him. I’m not saying that it has to be noticeable. the bible says that it is better to worship God in privacy instead of trying to gain the affection of others by doing it publicly. anyway i’m getting off topic, sorry.
sometimes belief seems like enough, but if that is all there is to it, then why did God give Moses the commandments? as a decoration? no. those are the rules that we must live by in order to gain entry into Heaven. maybe you aren’t catholic or don’t practice the commandments. there is still no reason to not make any effort to praise God.
I am not the one to damn people. God is. judgement day will come when God is ready for it, and He will say who goes to hell and who doesn’t. it is not my place to say. i cannot judge. God knows us better than we know ourselves. He sees into our very souls. He created us and shaped us. His fingerprints are all over the hearts that He molded for us. who are we to judge each other?
everyone is destined for eternal life with God, but they choose their own path. since God gave us free will, we decide whether we want to smoke pot or pray the rosary. we make our own destinies(ha, that sounds like a cheesy movie line!!)
Pascal’s Wager is a good argument, but only you know what is the right way to serve God. we are all brought to this earth for a purpose. our first job is to believe in God. the second is to listen. listen to what God sent you to earth to do. some tasks are great and others small. we are put here to serve God. nobody else. we know right from wrong. we are able to decide the right way to worship God because we hold the answer deep within our own minds. consiously we have forgotten it. “whenever something is too unpleasant, too shameful for us to entertain, we reject it. we erase it from our memory. but the imprint is always there. nothing is ever really forgotten.”
it doesn’t matter if one believes in the environmental issues or not. they simply are there or they are not.
my opinions did not change after reading James. wanna know why?? because everything that i just read was basically me dumbing it down. and no, i didn’t read the scripture before answering the questions. i have a very good spiritual guide. she goes by the name of Caley!!
March 5th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
I believe with Cody Hacker because I do believe that right now in my life, im not 100% sure that iam going to Heaven. By the sins that
I caused. Also there are many people who believe in God, but they sin all the time.
March 5th, 2009 at 5:10 pm
I am responding to all of my classmates that beileve that if they could chose anyone they’d be going to Hell. That is the one thing that always confuses me about religion.
Wer’e all sinners and yet somehow it’s possible to get into heaven…
Mr. Holt, should the question be: “Who would be going to heaven?”
March 6th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
I would have to agree with Jen on this one. She put what I said into much better words. With out the belief in God, to strengthen your relationship, you would have a hard time making it to heaven. In some cases you need more than just the belief.
March 6th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
I don’t exactly believe this. If there’s an Atiest who loves everyone and is nice and a Christian who hate’s everyone then who is better. the Christian you would think but he is being more of a hypacrite so it would be the Athiest. If he went to Heaven and got to choose wouldn’t he want to stay where everyone was nice. just because they don’t think God exsists doesn’t mean they won’t go to Heavan.
You should believe in God but if you do and are one of the meanest people you can find then HOW can you call yourself a Christian.
I can’t really think of anyone destined for Hell who believes in God but I’m sure there are.
and like I said you have to ACT Christian to have Eternal life.
no, if someone thinks that Enviromental problems are real that does NOT mean they are.
March 6th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
I was right. nothing changed by reading the Bible.
March 7th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
i agree with Cody Hacker because he has the same perspective as i do. He talks about how if people believe in God, you do not automatically go to heaven, because of sin, which is the same way as i think about the question

Kevin-
I agree with you in saying
“If you do believe in God, you are not destined for enternal life because you have to show that you believe in God.”
It relates to James 2:14-26 entirely.
“Be assured, then, that faith without works is as dead as a body without breath.”-James 2:26.

To Ashley and All…
I think you bring up a great point about religion. Atleast religion vs. Christianity.
Religion is a set of rules that one must follow–some are man-made, while others are interpretations of what the Bible claims.
Christianity is a relationship between us and Jesus Christ.
In essence the LAW or rules of the Old Testament are set up by God. If we follow those rules to a “T” and never have and never will make a mistake, then Heaven is ours! However, no one who ever lived or will live (other than Jesus) can follow those rules.
See, people like to do things on their own and like a set of rules to accomplish in order to get to the desired goal. God gave us those rules and said “Go for it!”. But they also show us that we cannot be perfect.
This is why we depend on the Grace of God. Grace is when you are given something that you do not deserve. We do not deserve to go to Heaven because we have not followed the Rules set up by God.
Like it or not, believe it or not, we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God. However, God loves us so much that he built in a way since the dawn of time to sends us Jesus, who would be our final sacrifice that atones for all of our sins provided that we believe in and live a life that honors and glorifies Jesus.
This is where James comes in (I feel). He says that belief is not enough–even Satan believes in God’s existence, yet Hell was made for him–so obviously Satan is destined for Hell.
I think what James is tryiing to say is that if you truly believe in and love and want a relationship with Jesus and truly appreicate what He did for all of us (as sinners) you will strive to live a life of love and compassion and good works will just come.
It does not say believe in God and do good deeds because you are supposed to. It is not like God has a pencil and paper making notes and once you get to a magical number of good works you are good to go.
Not at all. The closer you are to Jesus and the more you trust Him, the more good works just follow.
If you have a deep relationship with Jesus–it is by the grace of God that you are saved and by the death and resurrection of Jesus. Not by the good works you do.
If we confuse our need to do good works with getting to Heaven, this is religion and legalistic and we will always fall short.
The Bible is full of examples of this and we need to read them and not make the same mistakes.
Hope this helps or at least raises a few more questions for you all.
March 8th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
I am going to agree with Kevin Becklin. I believe me and him have the same ideas in how that you have to do more then just believe in him to go to heaven.
March 8th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
im agreeing with what tj had said, he has most of the same beliefs that i have, like the fact that just because you belive in god, dosent mean that you are going to heaven.
March 8th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
I’d have to agree with B-RAD. Some christians can be so bitter. it is sad that there are athiests that are more caring than christians. however, Jesus did say that if we deny Him in front of our friends, He will deny us in front of His Father.
March 8th, 2009 at 7:39 pm
I agree with Ray because we both believe that just because someone believesd in God, doesn’t mean that they are going to be saved. It all depends on how you act during your life.
March 9th, 2009 at 5:24 am
I would have to agree with both sides, I mean you can’t really just take one side just because of your believe i mean you have to look at it from both sides
March 13th, 2009 at 9:06 am
I agree with T.J.! that’s not acting on what you believe. if you really DO believe in something then you will act on it and show it to everyone so everyone knows you believe. first, you don’t even have to believe to do this. It could either be something else you believe other than God and still show it. or you could be saved by God by doing good things and not even believing.
