I would think that a wiki could be valuable as a collaboration tool for teachers, especially as time to meet face to face is shrinking.

You especially have to be conscious about the content that you use from others that you repost in your blog or wiki. You can only use material that you’ve been given permission to use and then, be sure to cite it correctly.
If you do create content that you don’t mind sharing, be sure to license under Creative Commons so that others know it’s okay to use it.

Some of the problems with widgets might be associated with the theme you have selected. Other themes, like Rockets, are more widget friendly.
